11-26-2018 SAM Senior Advisory Board Minutes November 26, 2018 Present: Don Schroeder, Judy Simons, Julie Jensen, Jeannette Meyer, Curt Dahl, Kay Yoch, Darlene Kenning, Mike Becker City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: None L The meeting was called to order at 10:15a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. IL Secretary's Report: The October minutes were reviewed and approved on a motion made by Jeannette and seconded by Kay. III. Treasurer's Report: Card sales totaled $101 for October while the button projects brought in $71. Various other items including dish cloths, potholders, scrubbers and a mug rug chipped in another $51. A chandelier rental added $75 to the total. Judy made a motion to approve the treasurer's report with a second from Darlene. The motion was approved. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie reported that a group traveled to the Bell Museum in St. Paul with lunch at Christo's on November 13th. The trip was sold out. The Chanhassen Dinner Theater is on tap for a December 5th matinee showing of"Holiday Inn" and that is also sold out. On January 24th Julie has a trip planned to the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud to see a tribute entitled "Remembering Bobby Vee". Then on the 5th of February a tour is scheduled to the Ames Center in Burnsville for another rendition of"Church Basement Ladies." Upcoming events include "Tenderly: The Rosemary Clooney Musical" at the Old Log Theater, "Evita" at the Lyric Arts Theater, and "Mama Mia" at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the monthly Fellowship Dinner will be held tomorrow night and will feature turkey as the main course. There is no Fellowship Dinner in December. The November movie was "Tag" and received modest reviews. "Three Identical Strangers"was the bonus movie and turned out to be pretty good according to some in the audience. December's movie has not yet been chosen but "It's a Wonderful Life"will be the bonus movie. The book clubs remain popular. Ping pong is now on Wednesday evenings and attendance has been okay so far. National Pickle Day was held on November 14th with pickles on a stick. Next month is National Maple Syrup Day and the Center will celebrate with mini pancakes. November 19th featured "Cooking for One"with breakfast meals as the focus. Tomorrow night is the chance to meet the author of"The Girl in Building C" at the Center. Seniors can take advantage of the Needlework Clinic that will assist people who get stuck while attempting to create a sewing, knitting, or needlework project. In January the Bone Builders program will be operating under a different title- SAIL. The letters stand for Stay Active and Independent for Life. Although changing names, the program will still operate as it has in the past. V. Business A. New Computer/Laptop- The computer located in the Senior Center suffered the crash of its hard drive and cannot be repaired. September requested that a replacement be purchased and that the board decide between a laptop and tower type with a monitor. After much discussion, Curt made a motion seconded by Kay that the Center purchase a new laptop with a top end cost of$700. The motion was approved. Don reminded the group that September has the authority to spend up to $100 on any item she deems necessary so if the laptop is a little over $700 to purchase, she has the authority to go ahead with the acquisition. B. December Board Meeting- The Advisory Board will meet at 5:OOpm on Monday, December 17th for a social gathering. Spouses are invited. C. T-Shirt Idea- September reported that there is still no design for a proposed Senior Center t-shirt. John mentioned that Leslie Alberts at the PRCE office has some creative ability and might be of assistance in creating a design. He will get back to the board on that possibility. D. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Jim Peterson. VI. Adjournment: Curt made a motion to adjourn at 11:18 am with a second from Judy. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on Monday, January 28, at 10:00am. (Social gathering on December 17th) John McRaith, Secretary
