08-27-2018 SAM Senior Advisory Board Minutes August 27, 2018 Present: Don Schroeder, Judy Simons, Julie Jensen, Jeannette Meyer, Curt Dahl, Kay Yoch, City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Darlene Kenning, Mike Becker L The meeting was called to order at 10:04a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. IL Secretary's Report: The July minutes were reviewed and approved on a motion made by Kay and seconded by Curt. III. Treasurer's Report: Card sales totaled $168 for July while the button projects brought in $102. Various other items including dish cloths, potholders, magnets and scrubbers chipped in another $104. Shotgun shell flags brought in $75 while three rentals of the newly purchased chandeliers provided another $225. Jeannette made a motion to approve the treasurer's report with a second from Judy. The motion was approved. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie reported that a sold out tour on August 14th visited the Dykstra Gardens in Blomkest. The annual trip to the state fair will be this Thursday, August 30th. The Center is offering a September 18th Mystery Tour. Julie will take a group to see "Bee Hive" at the Old Log Theater on October 10th. The November excursion will be to the Bell Museum in St. Paul with lunch at Christo's on the 13th. The Chanhassen Dinner Theater is on tap for a December 5th matinee showing of"Holiday Inn". A possible upcoming trip will feature the music of Rosemary Clooney. Julie is looking for ideas for weatherproof possibilities for trips in January and February. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the August movie "I Can Only Imagine"was well received. The September movie will be "The Greatest Showman" with "The Book Club" as the second feature. The August Fellowship dinner will be held tomorrow night. Kayaking is going very well with new people showing up on a regular basis. A September outing is being planned to Lake Minnie-Belle. National Senior Citizen Day turned out to be kind of a dud. The book clubs continue to be popular. The Senior Expo will be held on September 26�h. V. Business A. Active Shooter Event- A training was held on July 25th at the Event Center on what to do in case of a mass shooting. Board members reported that it was very informative and they would like to bring the trainer back again in the near future. B. Neil Diamond Event- September investigated the cost of bringing a tribute to Neil Diamond to Hutchinson after watching the fellow perform in St. Cloud. The cost of$12-$15,000 was just a little too steep to attempt an event. C. T-Shirt Idea- September reported that they are still working on a design for the Senior Center t-shirts. D. Concert- The concert tickets are on sale for the Saturday, September 15th event. Over 100 tickets have already been sold. The board spent some time determining who would be available to help with this event. E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Joan Ewald. September brought up the idea of purchasing some pickleball equipment and setting up a time to play at the Recreation Center. Since the fairgrounds already has pickleball set up in their facility, the board threw out the idea of running an activity there. An instructor would teach our participants how to play the game of pickleball. VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 10:52 am with a second from Jeannette. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on Monday, September 24th, at 10:OOam. John McRaith, Secretary
