07-23-2018 SAM Senior Advisory Board Minutes July 23, 2018 Present: Don Schroeder, Judy Simons, Julie Jensen, Darlene Kenning, Jeannette Meyer, Curt Dahl, Kay Yoch, Mike Becker City Staff: September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: None I. The meeting was called to order at 10:00a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. II. Secretary’s Report: The June minutes were reviewed and approved on a motion made by Curt and seconded by Jeannette. III. Treasurer’s Report: Card sales amounted to $114 for June while the button projects brought in another $45. Dish cloths, potholders, and scrubbers tallied an additional $21. Kay made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report with a second from Curt. The motion was approved. IV. Old Business th A. Tours- Julie reported that a sold out tour on July 17 traveled to the Willmar Country Club for lunch and a Green Lake boat tour. August will feature two th trips. The first will be on August 14 and will travel to Blomkest and the Dykstra Gardens. The second will be the annual trip to the state fair on August thth 30. The Center will be offering a September 18 Mystery Tour which will be advertised soon. Julie will take a group to see “Bee Hive” at the Old Log Theater th on October 10. The November excursion will be to the Bell Museum in St. Paul th with lunch at Christo’s on the 13. The Chanhassen Dinner Theater is on tap for th a December 5 matinee showing of “Holiday Inn”. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the June movie “Battle of the Sexes” got mixed reviews. The bonus movie was “Rebel in the Rye” and it dealt with the life of author J. D. Salinger. Next month’s feature film is “I Can Only Imagine” with “The Aviator” as the bonus movie. The July Fellowship dinner will be held next Tuesday. The August dinner will feature barbecued riblets. Kayaking is going very well with the next event scheduled for tomorrow night at rd Lake Manuella. Dates are still being set for August. The October 3 Smart Driving course has been cancelled due to the lack of an instructor. Adaptive Rec used the indoor mini golf equipment but they only had nine people in attendance. V. Business th A. Active Shooter Event- A training will be held on July 25 at 1:00pm at the Event Center on what to do in case of a mass shooting. The training lasts two hours. B. Neil Diamond Event- September took a trip to St. Cloud to watch someone put on a tribute to Neil Diamond. She deemed it good enough that she will check into the cost of having him perform at the Event Center at some future date. C. T-Shirt Idea - September is working on a design for the Senior Center t-shirts. She wants to make sure it is a good design so she will not rush this phase of the project. th D. Concert- The concert is all set for Saturday, September 15. It is called th “Legends of the 20 Century” and features music from Brenda Lee, Bobby Vee, Dion, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. The board has decided to charge $20 per ticket for an advanced sale and $25 at the door. E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Lois Jopp. VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 10:55 am with a second from Jeannette. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board’s next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on Monday, August 27, at 10:00am. John McRaith, Secretary
