06-25-2018 SAM Senior Advisory Board Minutes June 25, 2018 Present: Don Schroeder, Judy Simons, Julie Jensen, Darlene Kenning, Jeannette Meyer, Curt Dahl, Kay Yoch City Staff: September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Mike Becker I. The meeting was called to order at 10:05a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. II. Secretary’s Report: The May minutes were reviewed and approved on a motion made by Jeannette and seconded by Curt. III. Treasurer’s Report: Card sales amounted to $89 for May while the button projects brought in another $8. Dish cloths, potholders, and scrubbers tallied an additional $26. Kay made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report with a second from Darlene. The motion was approved. IV. Old Business th A. Tours- Julie reported that on June 5 a group traveled to the Fagan Fighters th Museum in Granite Falls. This tour sold out. July 17 will offer a trip to the Willmar Country Club for lunch and a Green Lake boat tour. This tour is sold out with 12 on the waitlist. August will feature two trips. The first will be on August th 14 and will travel to Blomkest and the Dykstra Gardens. This trip currently has 34 participants registered while the second will be the annual trip to the state fair thth on August 30. The Center will be offering a September 18 Mystery Tour which will be advertised soon. Julie intends to bring a group to see “Bee Hive” at th the Old Log Theater on October 10. Julie got new phone, which allows her to take photos and gives her internet access. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the June Fellowship dinner will be tomorrow night and has 32 registered. Kayaking went both times this past month and the weather cooperated nicely. There was a rootbeer float celebration that th turned out to be very enjoyable on June 20 right after Bone Builders. Red Hats and Friends are still in the planning process for an activity at the Center. Book Clubs are still doing fine. “The Post” was the feature movie for June and “The Quartet” was the bonus movie. The July movies have not been chosen yet. The ththth Center will be closed on July 4, 5, and 6. The Fellowship dinner for July will th feature hamburger goulash. Kayaking will be July 11 at the river. The th Hassingers will host on July 24. Bingo numbers have been increasing lately. V. Business th A. Active Shooter Event- A training will be held on July 25 on what to do in case of a mass shooting. The training lasts two hours. B. Mini Golf Request- The Lions Club has requested the use of a couple of the holes for the indoor mini-golf course to be used off site. Since the funds raised are going to a worthy cause the board decided to let them use the materials without a charge. C. T-Shirt Idea - September is still exploring ideas on what design we should have on T-shirts advertising the Senior Center. th D. Concert- The concert is all set for Saturday, September 15. It is called th “Legends of the 20 Century” and features music from Brenda Lee, Bobby Vee, Dion, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. The band performing is called “Hard Day’s Night”. We will pay $2500 for this event. The board has decided to charge $20 per ticket for an advanced sale and $25 at the door. E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Sharon Radantz. VI. Adjournment: Curt made a motion to adjourn at 10:57 am with a second from Kay. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board’s next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on rd Monday, July 23, at 10:00am. John McRaith, Secretary
