05-29-2018 SAM Senior Advisory Board Minutes May 29, 2018 Present: Don Schroeder, Judy Simons, Julie Jensen, Darlene Kenning, Jeannette Meyer, Curt Dahl, Kay Yoch City Staff: September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Mike Becker I. The meeting was called to order at 10:00a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. II. Secretary’s Report: The April minutes were reviewed and approved on a motion made by Jeannette and seconded by Kay. III. Treasurer’s Report: Card sales amounted to $103 for April while the button projects brought in another $40. Dish cloths, potholders, and scrubbers tallied an additional $74. Curt made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report with a second from Judy. The motion was approved. IV. Old Business th A.Tours- Julie reported that on May 9 the Center traveled to the Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center for a rendition of the Life and Music of Frank Sinatra. th The trip was a few short of being full. On June 5 a group will travel to the th Fagan Fighters Museum in Granite Falls. This tour is sold out. July 17 will offer a trip to the Willmar Country Club for lunch and a Green Lake boat tour. August th will feature two trips. The first will be on August 14 and will travel to Lake Lillian and the Dykstra Gardens while the second will be the annual trip to the thth state fair on August 30. The Center will be offering a September 18 Mystery Tour which will be advertised soon. B.Update on Programs- September reported that the May Fellowship Dinner will feature roast beef commercials and has 30 people registered. The movie for May was “Only the Brave” with “Risk Takers” as the second movie. Both movies were good. Red Hats and Friends are planning a July activity at the Center. Book Clubs are still doing fine. “The Post” is the feature movie for June and “The th Quartet” is the bonus movie. Kayaking events will be held on June 12 & June th 20. V.Business A.Review of Murder at the Zoo- After the rescheduling of the event, it turned out pretty well with over 90 tickets sold and a net profit of $503. The show was good but the expectations of the show’s producers can be difficult to work with at times. The board felt that we should wait awhile before presenting another show of this kind. th B. Mass Shooting Event- Eric Killian will give a presentation on July 25 on what to do in case of a mass shooting. C. T-Shirt Idea - September has someone that might be willing to create an image incorporating activities at the Center for the purpose of creating a t-shirt design. She thought it might be around $200 to have him create the image. September will offer him something to create an outline of this image. th D.Concert- September reported that a concert is set for Saturday, September 15. th It is called “Legends of the 20 Century” and features music from Brenda Lee, Bobby Vee, Dion, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. The band performing is called “Hard Day’s Night”. We will pay $2500 instead of doing a split. The board has decided to charge $20 per ticket for an advanced sale and $25 at the door. E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Shirley Meece. VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 11:03 am with a second from Judy. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board’s next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on th Monday, June 25 , at 10:00am. John McRaith, Secretary
