Old Business: Genealogy Xchange Group - Thursday, May 26 at 7:00 Stephanie Chappell will present "A Soldier's Story" Stephanie found a letter in a box at the MN History Center. This soldier was at the stockade in Hutchinson in 1862. By following one thread, you can follow the genealogy of a person. Group is taking shape. Last month for the workshop, there were 10 people present. Half of these were new attendees. They sat in a circle and had great discussions with everyone participating. New Business: Summer Schedule - Returning college students will be returning to their positions to help in mornings and afternoons. Maria Jacobs will be helping to fill out the schedule as needed (in May and early June). In the fall, Katy will be looking at one or two library positions to fill. Spring has been good, very busy. A different group of people other than those who came to the library in the winter have been coming in. Summer Reading Kick-off - Sherry Lund will be coming to our June meeting to tell us about the Summer Reading Program. The theme this year is Read for the Win! Sherry has been visiting schools. All teachers have been contacted. Registration ends July 2,d. Prizes can be picked up through August 20. What about visitors that want to check out books? Library patrons who are visiting the library from out-of-state may register for a library card as a "nonresident borrower." The fee for purchasing a nonresident borrower card is $30 per year per card. For those patrons who are considered "reciprocal borrowers," these patrons may register their library card with PLS before checking out materials. Pioneerland Library System will honor the following reciprocal library cards: • issued by Minnesota public libraries which are members of Minnesota Library Borrowers Card Compact. • issued by Grant County Library in South Dakota. • issued by a member of MnLINK. Anyone with a Pioneerland Library System card can check out books in all 31 libraries in the system. Question was asked, How much does it cost in taxes for residence to use a library? Katy did not have an immediate answer but will follow up. Pioneerland Library Passport - Willmar came up with this idea. The goal of this program is to get adults to travel around to the 31 libraries in the Pioneerland Library System. Each library will stamp your passport. There will be prizes for the stamps. Katy is looking at doing this at the Hutchinson Library. Storage Room Clean Up - The facilities manager is cleaning up the area and looking for ways to find storage. Many of the items in the storage room are not things that will be used again. Some things could be stored more efficiently. The new cleaning service is working out well. A possible far out project is a fund for new furniture. Right now an option is to have the furniture steam cleaned. New lighting materials are ordered but not here yet. Other - How is the parking since Novation moved to their new location? Parking is tighter. One library patron sat and counted how many people went in and out of Novation in an hour. He said the count was 40. Internet hot spots were not put into the park because of the expense because the light poles are fiberglass and could not hold the equipment. Board thought it was a good idea and suggested maybe a city building could be used. Eating in the library - this library does not allow it. Every library sets its own rules. The new statue is in place outside of the Library. Dianne saw Rudy's talk and thought it was so worth watching. Very funny and witty. Motion to adjourn by Dianne Wanzek, seconded by Mary Christensen. Meeting adjourned at 5:07 pm.
