10-23-2017 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes October 23, 2017 Present: Don Schroeder, Kay Yoch, Judy Klawitter, Julie Jensen, Darlene Kenning, Warren Schuft, Jeannette Meyer, and Curt Dahl City Staff. September Jacobsen Absent: John McRaith L The meeting called to order at 10:00a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. IL Secretary's Report: The September minutes were examined. Jeannette made a motion to approve the minutes and Warren seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported that card sales for September amounted to $166.20. Other monies recorded were from craft sales, dishcloths, potholders, and reimbursement money. The Center Giving Program currently has $1906 available. Curt made a motion to accept the report with a second from Kay. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie reported that there was two tours that happened since the last meeting. The mystery tour went to Sauk Center and visited the Sin Clair Lewis House, Historic Palmer House, Broten baseball factory and a Dairy Farm. The second tour was to a cooking school and the arboretum. Both tours sold out. Christmas houses will be the theme for a November 29th tour to visit the Alexander Ramsey house and the Bachman Idea house. December 1 lth is the day a group will head to the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud to watch a performance of the Texas Tenors. The next tour registration is for the January tour that will be to neighboring Glencoe to have brunch and visit McLeod County's only castle. Julie has four other tours planned: Ladies of Country, Old Log presentation of "Guys and Dolls", The King's singers and an afternoon at the Bloomington's MN Masonic Heritage Center for a presentation of the Life and Music of Frank Sinatra. Summer tours will be to Fagan WWII Fighter Museum, Dykstra's gardens the annual cruise and possibly to the MN State fair. The tour registration policy was under review again. All board members agreed that the current policy is the best procedure to follow. B. Update on Programs- The monthly movie needed to be replaced by a different title but was still about the same topic. Fellowship dinner is remaining about the same for attendance. MN River Agency on aging has been hosting classes on Medicare updates. An upcoming class will be very helpful for seniors is "The Trick to Downsizing Leads to Lots of Treats" which will be presented on October 30th at 10:30 am. V. Business A. Mini Golf Fundraiser- Don brought the Board up to date on the progress. Hardware and adhesive need to be purchased. Early November the great room will be available to lay out the holes, stain paint as needed and apply carpeting. A suggestion that once the course is complete we host a city employee only event and make any changes if necessary. Everything is on schedule for the March event. B. Harmony River Craft Sale- Harmony River is November 4'. Center is registered to go but will only attend if enough crafts are available to sell. C. Hand & Foot- The new card game introduced at the Center called Hand & Foot put out a survey for anyone who wishes to play Tuesday or Wednesday evening. D. September brought a chandelier rental idea to the Board. For $150 the board will purchase the decoration and rent out at $75 per event. Darlene made a motion to the rental idea with Jeannette seconding it. Motion passed. E. The producer of the Murder Mystery inquired if the center would host another show. September will contact him to let him know the Board would like consideration for another production. F. A discussion for possible board members took place. September will speak with the four people mentioned and report to the board on their decisions. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner ticket went to Corrine Schlueter. VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 11:18 am with a second from Warren. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on Monday, November 27th at 10:00am. September Jacobsen filling in for John McRaith, Secretary
