10-02-2017 PRCEMMINUTES Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board October 2, 2017 Members present were Marsha Anderson, Liz Marcus, Marlys Hoeft, Chad Czmowski, Eric Westlund and Craig Juhnke. Also present were Dolf Moon, Mary Haugen, and Jody Harms Dolf Moon called the meeting to order at 5:15 pm. A motion was made by Marlys Hoeft to approve minutes from May 1 meeting and was seconded by Eric Westlund. The board unanimously agreed. OLD BUSINESS A. Aquatics Center: Project Review 1. The Aquatics Center was open from June 2 -August 27. 2. 54,937 swimmers came to the Aquatic Center. 3. Currently reviewing reports to make adjustments for next year. a. Staffing b. Facility Utilization c. Membership and admission fees B. Summer Projects: Elks, Rotary, and VFW Playground installations 1. The playgrounds were updated with all donated funds and installed by community volunteers, contractors, and parks staff. NEW BUSINESS A. Dog Park 1. Installation will begin the last week in October. Fencing will be installed around the 1 �/z acre space with 5 ft high, black fencing ($30,000). B. Ballfields 1. Ballfields will be updated in preparation of the reduction of two fields at Linden park due to storm water pond installation next year (dependent on city council approval). 2. Riverside and Tarten park backstops will be updated. 3. Northwoods park backstop will be updated along with four portable mounds to accommodate baseball. C. VFW Park 1. The VFW Group will install a bathroom. This is a $40,000 project D. Robert's Park 1. Robert's Park playground equipment is failing. Installation of new playground will be in the spring ($35,000-$40,000) BOARD MEMBER ITEMS • The Rotarian tree planting will take place this fall • Additional landscaping will be installed at the Aquatic Center. SouthPoint Financial volunteers will assist the parks department with this project. ADJOURNMENT • Motion made to adjourn by Chad Czmowski and seconded by Craig Juhnke. Meeting adjourned at 6:15 pm.
