09-25-2017 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes September 25, 2017 Present: Don Schroeder, Kay Yoch, Judy Klawitter, Julie Jensen, Darlene Kenning, Warren Schuft, Jeannette Meyer City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Curt Dahl L The meeting was called to order at 10:04a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. IL Secretary's Report: The August minutes were examined. Jeannette made a motion to approve the minutes and Warren seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported that card sales for August amounted to $148. Dish cloths and potholders totaled $56 while flag sales brought in $100. Button crafts, a birdhouse, and magnet sales raised the total by another $108. The Center Giving Program currently has $1906 available. Kay made a motion to accept the report with a second from Darlene. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie reported that the state fair trip on August 31st ended up with 29 registered participants and the weather was beautiful. The mystery tour is sold out and is scheduled for tomorrow. On October 16th a group will travel to the Way Cool Cooking School along with the Minnesota Arboretum and the Apple House. Christmas houses will be the theme for a November 29th tour to visit the Alexander Ramsey house and the Bachman Idea house. December 1 lth is the day a group will head to the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud to watch a performance of the Texas Tenors. In January Julie is planning a tour to neighboring Glencoe to have brunch and visit McLeod County's only castle. B. Update on Programs- September mentioned that the Senior Expo will be taking place tomorrow. Walmart will be providing flu and pneumonia shots at this year's event. Ping pong is slow this time of year. The new card game, Hand and Foot, was introduced at the Center this past month with a good turnout. The movie for this past month was "The Lion" and received good reviews. The second movie was "Greater". Next month's main feature will be "Stronger" with "Going in Style" also playing as the second movie. An upcoming session that will be very helpful for seniors is "The Trick to Downsizing Leads to Lots of Treats" which will be presented on October 30th at 10:30 am. V. Business A. Mini Golf Fundraiser- Don has been working hard to prepare the nine holes of mini golf for the fundraiser to be held next March. Some additional help will be needed to apply some glue and paint to each of the nine holes. So far the project has cost $612 which is under projections. B. Harmony River Craft Sale- Harmony River is going to host another craft sale and would like the Senior Center to participate. We have not decided to participate yet, and it may depend upon the location of our booth. C. Hand & Foot- The new card game introduced at the Center called Hand & Foot looks like a promising activity for players who want to play a game that does not require the concentration expected with other card games. The challenge is to find a time that will work for the participants without interfering with other card groups. D. Card Game Hand & Foot- Good turnout for the first session of the card game Hand and Foot. Now the challenge is to find a time that will work. The participants prefer afternoons but this may affect some people who already participate in other card games in the afternoon. E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Twyla Geiken. Jeannette asked Don about possibly making some bingo card holders for the Center. VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 11:22 am with a second from Darlene. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on Monday, October 23rd at 10:00am. John McRaith, Secretary
