IV. Old Business
A. Tours- Julie reported that the second tour to the renovated state capitol went well
and that it probably exceeded the first tour because there was less commotion.
The state fair trip will be held on August 31st and there are 21 currently signed up.
The September 26th mystery tour is sold out. On October 16th a group will travel
to the Way Cool Cooking School along with the Minnesota Arboretum and the
Apple House. Christmas houses will be the theme for a November 29th tour to
visit the Alexander Ramsey house and the Bachman Idea house. Then on
December 1 lth another group will head to the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud to
watch a performance of the Texas Tenors.
B. Update on Programs- September reported that tomorrow night's fellowship
dinner has around 40 people registered and will feature pork riblets. Jumbo
meatballs with mashed potatoes will be on tap for the September dinner. The
movie for this past month was "Tommy's Honor" and drew a good number of
people. The movie was good but the Scottish accents were difficult to understand
at times. The second movie was "Hidden Figures" and this movie had a great
turnout. Next month's main feature will be "The Lion" with "Greater" also
playing as the second movie. Only three people signed up for the medication
checkup but we would like to try again in late October before the snowbirds leave
for the winter. The kayaking group managed to get out on one of two scheduled
outings this past month with another one scheduled for Tuesday, September 12th
The group will meet at Roberts Park and paddle to Becky's house for
refreshments.
V. Business
A. Woodstone Dance- Woodstone senior living would like to partner with the
Center to put on a dance. They are promoting a dance class and would like to
finish with an actual dance. September will pursue this further.
B. Harmony River Craft Sale- Harmony River is going to host another craft sale
and would like the Senior Center to participate. September is hoping for a
better location this year but would like to see the crafts put on display as they
had good sales last year.
C. Mini -Golf Event- Curt and Don continue to plan for an indoor mini golf event
for next March at the Center. Creating the course could be somewhat expensive
depending on how elaborate the course becomes. The board was supportive of
the project and okayed an initial amount of $1000 to get the project started.
D. Card Game Hand & Foot- September said that there seems to be interest
among seniors to learn and play the card game Hand & Foot. She has
tentatively set the time frame as Thursdays from 9:30a -11:30a but Tuesdays
would work also.
E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Glenna
Jonson.
