IV. Old Business
A. Tours- September reported that the May 10th tour to the Plymouth Playhouse to
see the latest Church Basement Ladies production was enjoyable. The menu
matched the production with tater tot hotdish as the main item. Julie is on her trip
to Hinckley today to have lunch at Toby's and take a tour the fire museum. There
were 42 on today's trip. This is a special tour in conjunction with the book that is
currently being read within our community that deals with the fire. The
renovated state capitol will be the focus of a June 13th outing with lunch at the
Cherokee Tavern and a stop at the Abdallah Candy Factory. The first tour sold
out so quickly that a second tour was added for August 1st. That trip has sold out
also. On July 12th a group will head to the Afton House Inn for lunch and a
cruise on the St. Croix river. The state fair trip will be held on August 31st. On
September 26th there will be a mystery tour and on October 18th a tour will travel
to the Plymouth Playhouse to see a "Women of Country" concert.
B. Update on Programs- September reported that next month's fellowship luncheon
will feature broasted chicken. The movie for this past month was "LaLa Land"
and drew a good crowd. The second event was a road trip to Key West and back
which was featured as part of Travel at a Glance. The Untold Story of Retirement
in America had over 50 people in attendance. Tuesday night ping pong gets 10-
12 people per night. The Senior Center will host a Red Hat and Friends event
tomorrow at 10:00a. The card players are having trouble getting players for
bridge. Kayaking was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 16th, but didn't get
enough people to have the event. The next kayaking event will be on the river on
June 13th with a second outing on Lake Washington scheduled on the 20th. "Four
Words That Changed My Life" will be presented by Dennis Bergquist on June
15th at 10:00am. The featured movie for June will be "The Shack". "The
Founder" is the second movie. Terry Davis may give a Travel at a Glance on one
of his many train trips.
V. Business
A. Ping Pong Table- The Center has the opportunity to purchase a ping pong table
for $200. They group also found another very good table for free. They are
collecting money each week. Warren made a motion to take the $200 out of the
memorial fund. Jeanette seconded the motion and it passed.
B. Johnny Cash Christmas Concert- A young group from Waconia looks like a
promising band to provide a concert. September found another group featuring
Patsy Cline music. The board felt that providing a larger variety of music may
be more appealing to our audience.
C. Murder Mystery- The murder mystery dinner has only 26 tickets left. It is
scheduled for June 10th at the Event Center.
D. Senior Living Tour- The senior living tour is scheduled for July 20th. This is an
area tour of senior living spaces. This will give participants a chance to see
what these residences look like.
E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Ruth
Schwarze. The board discussed some issues we are having with card players.
We need to stress that everyone play by the rules and respect each other as the
games are played.
VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 11:19 am with a second from Jeanette.
The motion passed.
The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on
June 26th at 10:00a.m.
