05-22-2017 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes May 22,2017 Present: Don Schroeder, Kay Yoch, Warren Schuft, Jeanette Meyer City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Judy Klawitter, Darlene Kenning, Curt Dahl, Julie Jensen L The meeting was called to order at 10:00a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. IL Secretary's Report: The April minutes were examined. Warren made a motion to approve the minutes and Jeannette seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported that card sales amounted to $151 while button sales were at $5. Dish cloths and potholders totaled $6. The Center Giving Program currently has $2106 available. Kay made a motion to accept the report with a second from Jeanette. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- September reported that the May 10th tour to the Plymouth Playhouse to see the latest Church Basement Ladies production was enjoyable. The menu matched the production with tater tot hotdish as the main item. Julie is on her trip to Hinckley today to have lunch at Toby's and take a tour the fire museum. There were 42 on today's trip. This is a special tour in conjunction with the book that is currently being read within our community that deals with the fire. The renovated state capitol will be the focus of a June 13th outing with lunch at the Cherokee Tavern and a stop at the Abdallah Candy Factory. The first tour sold out so quickly that a second tour was added for August 1st. That trip has sold out also. On July 12th a group will head to the Afton House Inn for lunch and a cruise on the St. Croix river. The state fair trip will be held on August 31st. On September 26th there will be a mystery tour and on October 18th a tour will travel to the Plymouth Playhouse to see a "Women of Country" concert. B. Update on Programs- September reported that next month's fellowship luncheon will feature broasted chicken. The movie for this past month was "LaLa Land" and drew a good crowd. The second event was a road trip to Key West and back which was featured as part of Travel at a Glance. The Untold Story of Retirement in America had over 50 people in attendance. Tuesday night ping pong gets 10- 12 people per night. The Senior Center will host a Red Hat and Friends event tomorrow at 10:00a. The card players are having trouble getting players for bridge. Kayaking was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 16th, but didn't get enough people to have the event. The next kayaking event will be on the river on June 13th with a second outing on Lake Washington scheduled on the 20th. "Four Words That Changed My Life" will be presented by Dennis Bergquist on June 15th at 10:00am. The featured movie for June will be "The Shack". "The Founder" is the second movie. Terry Davis may give a Travel at a Glance on one of his many train trips. V. Business A. Ping Pong Table- The Center has the opportunity to purchase a ping pong table for $200. They group also found another very good table for free. They are collecting money each week. Warren made a motion to take the $200 out of the memorial fund. Jeanette seconded the motion and it passed. B. Johnny Cash Christmas Concert- A young group from Waconia looks like a promising band to provide a concert. September found another group featuring Patsy Cline music. The board felt that providing a larger variety of music may be more appealing to our audience. C. Murder Mystery- The murder mystery dinner has only 26 tickets left. It is scheduled for June 10th at the Event Center. D. Senior Living Tour- The senior living tour is scheduled for July 20th. This is an area tour of senior living spaces. This will give participants a chance to see what these residences look like. E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Ruth Schwarze. The board discussed some issues we are having with card players. We need to stress that everyone play by the rules and respect each other as the games are played. VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 11:19 am with a second from Jeanette. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on June 26th at 10:00a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
