03-27-2017 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes March 27,2017 Present: Julie Jensen, Judy Klawitter, Don Schroeder, Darlene Kenning, Kay Yoch, Warren Schuft, Curt Dahl, Jeanette Meyer City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: None L The meeting was called to order at 10:02a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. IL Secretary's Report: The February minutes were examined. Warren made a motion to approve the minutes and Judy seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported that card sales amounted to $107 while button sales were at $15 for the month of February. Dish cloths, magnets, and birdhouse spikes added another $25. Jeanette made a motion to accept the report with a second from Curt. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that a tour was heading out that day to the College of St. Benedict to see the U.S. Navy Concert Band perform and have lunch on campus. This tour sold out. An April 1 lth tour to a Glen Miller concert at the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud is also full. This will be followed up by a May 10th excursion to the Plymouth Playhouse to see the latest Church Basement Ladies production entitled "Rise Up O Men!" This tour filled very quickly. On May 22nd a group will travel to Hinckley to have lunch at Toby's and tour the fire museum. This is a special tour in conjunction with the book that is currently being read within our community that deals with the fire. There are still a few openings for this tour. The renovated state capitol will be the focus of a June 13th outing with lunch at the Cherokee Tavern and a stop at the Abdallah Candy Factory. This is sold out and has been so popular that a second tour has been added for August 1st. The next destination will be the Afton House Inn for lunch and a cruise on the St. Croix river. This event will occur on July 12th. The state fair trip will be held on August 31st B. Update on Programs- September reported that this month's fellowship luncheon will be held tomorrow evening. The April fellowship meal will be held on the 25th and feature cabbage and ham. The movie for this month was "Deepwater Horizon" as the main feature with "The Walk" as the secondary movie. The movie for April will be "Loving". "The Secret History of British Gardens" is the second feature. Tuesday night ping pong is still doing well. Arlis Feser will be presenting a six session seminar on Mind/Body/Spirit Healing from April 19th through May 24th from 6:00-7:OOp each Wednesday evening. V. Business A. Coffee Cart- Board members were able to view the new coffee cart that Don has constructed for the Center. A few details still need to be worked out but the cart should be very functional. B. Spring Concert- September could use some ticket takers and water servers for the upcoming concert. The Center has sold 187 tickets for the April 8th concert performance so it already has been deemed a successful fundraiser. C. Murder Mystery- The murder mystery dinner is scheduled for June 10th at the Event Center. September discovered that the caterer will provide servers for a small additional fee so it looks like we will go that direction with this event. D. Volunteer Luncheon- The date for the annual volunteer luncheon has been changed from Tuesday, April 18th to Monday, May Pt to accommodate one of the chefs that have volunteered to prepare the meal. E. Other- Warren checked with Walgreens and discovered that they would be willing to advertise large events such as our concerts on their electronic sign. This will give us greater visibility at the Center with no added cost. VI. Adjournment: Curt made a motion to adjourn at 11:15 am with a second from Warren. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on April 24th at 10:00a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
