02-27-2017 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes February 27, 2017 Present: Julie Jensen, Judy Klawitter, Don Schroeder, Darlene Kenning, Kay Yoch, Warren Schuft, Curt Dahl, Jeanette Meyer City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: None L The meeting was called to order at 10:00a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder. IL Secretary's Report: The January minutes were examined. Warren made a motion to approve the minutes and Curt seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported that card sales amounted to $134 for January/February while button sales were at $72. Dish cloths and pot holder sales took in another $23 and the magnets sold another $5. The shotgun shell flags brought in $80. Darlene made a motion to accept the report with a second from Judy. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that on February 22nd a group attended a performance of "Camelot" at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater. The March 27th trip to the College of St. Benedict, which will involve seeing the U.S. Navy Concert Band perform and include lunch on campus, is sold out. The same can be said of the April 1 lfh tour to a Glen Miller concert at the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud. This will be followed up by a May 1 ofh excursion to the Plymouth Playhouse to see the latest Church Basement Ladies production entitled "Rise Up O Ye Men!" This tour is also full. Then on May 22nd a group will travel to Hinckley to have lunch at Toby's and tour the fire museum. The renovated state capitol will be the focus of a June 13th outing with lunch at the Cherokee Tavern and a stop at the Abdallah Candy Factory. The next destination is Afton with lunch at the Afton House and a cruise on the St. Croix river. This event will occur on July 12th. B. Update on Programs- September reported that tomorrow's fellowship luncheon currently has forty registered. An attempt at snowshoeing failed due to a lack of snow. "Me Before You" was the cinema choice for February. "Deepwater Horizon" is the main feature for March with "The Walk" as the secondary movie. The Crow River Winery is hosting a casino night which the board had contemplated as a future event at the Center. The basic knitting program is going well and ping pong is being played on a regular basis at the Center on Tuesday evenings. V. Business A. Coffee Cart- September would like a new coffee cart. She found one she likes but the board felt that it was a bit pricey. Don believes that he can create something that will meet September's needs. B. Spring Concert- Tickets are on sale for the April 8th concert performance at the Event Center. The cost is $15 per ticket. C. Murder Mystery- The murder mystery dinner is scheduled for June 10th at the Event Center. We will need quite a few volunteers or a service group to help as this activity will include a dinner which is served to the participants. D. Volunteer Luncheon- The annual volunteer luncheon will be held on Tuesday, April 18th. E. Election of Officers- The 2017 Senior Advisory Board nominated Don Schroeder to continue as chairman while Curt Dahl was chosen to be the vice - chair. Warren Schuft was asked to continue as treasurer while John McRaith was again nominated as secretary. Each member nominated was agreeable to their nomination and they were approved in a unanimous vote. F. Other- The electronic sign was brought up again but the board felt the cost could not be justified. September reported that someone asked about having lockers installed at the Center but the board felt they would be difficult to oversee and probably unnecessary. The piano is okay so there will be no need for an upgrade. September thought it might be helpful to have a pharmacist come in and discuss the effects of various drugs that are in common use by seniors. Having a device available to check blood pressure was also brought up. VI. Adjournment: Curt made a motion to adjourn at 11:18 am with a second from Warren. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be March 27th at 10:00a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
