05-16-2016 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Monday May 16, 2016 at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were Chairperson Todd Brandel, Commissioner Jo Piehl, Commissioner Curtis Hughes, and
Chief Daniel Hatten.
Call the Meeting to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Brandel at 5:00 p.m.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Brandel asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Piehl to
accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Hughes. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Brandel asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the April 2016 meeting. Motion was made
by Commissioner Hughes, seconded by Commissioner Piehl to approve the meeting minutes. Motion carried
unanimously.
Staffing Issues:
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Officer Willers field training program is progressing without issue at this
time.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Officer Salazar has successfully completed the field training program and
has been assigned to the patrol unit.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Officer Brad Hemling has begun his field training program and is
progressing without issue at this time.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Police Officer Candidate Adam Seifermann has withdrawn from hiring
process.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Hospital Security Officer Matt Bergmann has completed the training
program without issue and has begun working shifts by himself.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Hospital Security Officer Candidate Jason Mons has accepted the
conditional offer of hire so the PD is currently completing the background investigation.
Union Update:
There are no Union issues at this time.
Items from the Floor:
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that he was studying the causes for police officers leaving the Department for
other agencies then trying to determine an approach to improve retention of employees.
Adjourn: Motion was made by Commissioner Piehl, seconded by Commissioner Hughes to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:45 pm.
