04-11-2016 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Monday April 11, 2016 at the Hutchinson Police Station. Present at the meeting were Commissioner Jo Piehl, Commissioner Curtis Hughes, and Chief Daniel Hatten. Call the Meeting to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chief Hatten at 5:19 p.m. Approval of Agenda: Chief Hatten asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Hughes to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Piehl. The motion carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes: Chief Hatten asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the February 2016 meeting. Motion was made by Commissioner Piehl, seconded by Commissioner Hughes to approve the meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. Staffing Issues: Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Officer Willers has recovered from his injuries and would return to full duty later this week after meeting with his doctor on Tuesday. Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Officer Salazar has successfully completed the field training program and has been assigned to the patrol unit. Chief Hatten informed the Commission that officer candidates Brad Hemley and Adam Seifermann have completed the background investigation process and are currently completing the psychological, medical, physical fitness testing before being offered a formal position of hire. Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Matt Bergmann has started the training program for the Part-time Hospital Security position. Chief Hatten informed the Commission that 3 candidates for Part-time Security Officers would have their final interview on Wednesday April 13, 2016. The interview panel would consist of Brenda Ewing, Curtis Hughes, and himself. Union Update: Chief Hatten informed the Commission the arbitration authority had made his ruling so both the City of Hutchinson and the Officer's Union were in the process of finalizing the contract wording. Items from the Floor: Chief Hatten informed the Commission that he was studying the causes for police officers leaving the Department for other agencies then trying to determine an approach to improve retention of employees. Adjourn: Motion was made by Commissioner Hughes, seconded by Commissioner Piehl to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:42 pm.
