L The meeting was called to order at 10:05a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder.
IL Secretary's Report: The September minutes were examined. Warren made a
motion to approve the minutes and Judy seconded the motion. The motion was
approved.
III. Treasurer's Report: September reported that card sales amounted to $135 for
September/October while button sales were at $55. Dish cloths and pot holder sales
took in another $12 and the magnets and a birdhouse added $50 more. Harriet made
a motion to accept the report with a second from Kay. The motion passed.
IV. Old Business
A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that the October 10th mystery tour visited Minneopa
State Park. Highlights included the waterfalls and the genetically pure bison on
display. The group also stopped at the renowned meat market in Nicollet. Like
all mystery tours, this event sold out rapidly. A November 1st tour to the
Paramount Theater in St. Cloud for a performance of show tunes and lunch at a
local golf course is sold out. December 9th will bring a visit to the Basilica of St.
Mary to hear the National Lutheran Choir and eat at a Japanese restaurant where
the food is prepared while you watch. This tour is also full. In January there will
be a banking tour that will start out at the Wells Fargo museum and then they will
head to the Weston Hotel for lunch. The hotel is a former bank building. After
lunch they will finish up with a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank. There are
currently 28 registered for this event. On February 22nd a group will attend a
performance of "Camelot" at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater. In March Julie has
scheduled a trip to the College of St. Benedict to see the U.S. Navy Concert Band
perform with lunch on campus. The next installment of "Church Basement
Ladies" is now playing but there are not enough tickets available for our group.
Julie is on a waitlist and hopes to find an opening.
B. Update on Programs- September reported that the Fellowship Dinner will be held
tomorrow night. This meal will feature potatoes and ham. The November meal
will be turkey with all the fixings. The movie for this month was "My Name is
Doris" and was well received. The second movie was "13 Hours" and also drew a
good crowd. Today there will be a seminar on the emotional and spiritual care of
the dying. In November the follow up seminar is entitled "Hospice Care 101 ".
Medicare will be the topic for a November 9th session. This will be followed with
a November 17th panel discussion on financial elder abuse.
V. Business
A. Motion Picture License- September was informed that to show movies, even if
we do not charge admission, we must have a licensing agreement in place. The
license costs $325 per year and allows you to show all the movies on a list that
are covered by the agreement. Curt made a motion that the annual fee come out
of the Giving Fund since this money was set aside specifically to be used to
benefit senior citizens. Warren seconded the motion and the motion passed.
B. Spring Concert- September is still looking for a spring concert. The board
discussed several possibilities and would like some feedback from the group
that sponsored past performances. Music from the 60's and 70's was deemed to
be the most popular with our target audience.
C. Newsletter Subscription- We will soon be promoting registration for the
monthly newsletter. As part of that promotion we will be doing a monthly
drawing for a free fellowship dinner. A person may only win once in a year and
has one year to redeem their prize.
D. Other- Topics brought up by board members included having passes to use the
Center, a potential casino night, and having The Price is Right as an event to be
held at the Center. It was decided that passes would not be a good fit for a
public facility. We need to gather some more particulars on staging a casino
night and developing a format for playing The Price is Right.
VI. Adjournment: Warren made a motion to adjourn at 11:30 am with a second from Kay.
The motion passed.
The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Monday,
November 28th at 10:00 a.m.
