September 26, 2016

L The meeting was called to order at 10:04a.m. by Chairman Don Schroeder.
IL Secretary's Report: The August minutes were examined. Judy made a
motion to approve the minutes and Darlene seconded the motion. The motion was
approved.
III. Treasurer's Report: September reported that card sales amounted to $198 for
August/September while button sales were at $120. Dish cloths and pot holder sales
took in another $63. Shotgun shell flags added $25 to the total. Harriet made a
motion to accept the report with a second from Kay. The motion passed.
IV. Old Business
A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that annual state fair trip scheduled for September
lst had 30 people registered which allowed the tour to break even. The weather
turned out to be great. The October 10th mystery tour is sold out. A November
tour to the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud for a performance of show tunes and
lunch at a local golf course is sold out. December 9th will bring a visit to the
Basilica of St. Mary to hear the National Lutheran Choir and eat at a Japanese
restaurant where the food is prepared while you watch. This tour is also full. In
January there will be a banking tour that will start out at the Wells Fargo museum,
and then they will head to the Weston Hotel for lunch. The hotel is a former bank
building. After lunch they will finish up with a tour of the Federal Reserve bank.
On February 22nd a group will attend a performance of "Camelot" at the
Chanhassen Dinner Theater. In March she has scheduled a trip to the College of
St. Benedict to see the U.S. Navy Concert Band perform with lunch on campus.
B. Update on Programs- September reported that the Fellowship Dinner will be held
tomorrow night after the Senior Expo. This meal will feature meatballs and
veggies. The movie for this month was "Black and White" and was very popular.
The last kayaking event was called off due to lack of numbers and questionable
weather. The group will begin again next spring. On October 24th there will be
a seminar on the emotional and spiritual care of the dying. Americorp gave a
presentation this past month which resulted in a couple new volunteers for their
organization.
V. Business
A. New Members- The board discussed how to create more interest in the Senior
Center. Discussion revolved around advertising on radio and newspapers. The
group also discussed providing opportunities for newcomers to learn the card
games played at the Center.
B. White Sidewalls- September is looking for a spring concert and the group had
discussed the White Sidewalls as a possibility. That group wanted a 70/30 split
with the Center paying for the advertising. The advisory board leaned more
toward someone new with Cassie and the Bobs on the list. September would
like to sign someone soon for next spring.
C. Price Is Right- We need to get some people together to play the Price Is Right
game on the Wii and see if this would be a good special event for the Center.
D. Senior Expo- The Senior Expo will be held at the Center tomorrow. Our Senior
Center will not be sponsoring a booth at the event but will display some senior
activities and craft items in the foyer.
VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 11:20 am with a second from Harriet.
The motion passed.
The Senior Advisory Board’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Monday,
October 24th at 10:00 a.m.
