Old Business A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that a group went to see an Old Log Theater production of "Million Dollar Quartet" which sold out. The show was good but the food and the way it was served left a little to be desired for some people. Next time they visit they may go to a restaurant in the area instead. The July 19th tour to Gull Lake for a boat trip and an arboretum visit is sold out. On August 17th a tour will travel to Black Bear Lodge in Baxter for dinner and a show at the Jasper theater. That event currently has 29 people registered. The annual state fair trip will be on September 1st. October will include a mystery tour. The November tour is still in the works but December 9th is in the books for a visit to the Basilica of St. Mary to hear the National Lutheran Choir and eat at a Japanese restaurant where the food is prepared while you watch. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the upcoming Fellowship Dinner will feature broasted chicken and currently has 42 people signed up. July's meal will be chow mein, rice, and noodles. Bone Builders has moved over to a portion of the Great Room at the Event Center on Mondays when it is available. "The Lady in the Van" was the movie for June and received very mixed reviews. "The Race" will be July's featured movie. The Red Hat Society held a fashion show on June 20 and had 37 people in attendance. The next outing will be tomorrow for the kayaking group and then they will travel to Lake Manuella in July. The book clubs are doing well. The card players are looking for more people who might be interested in playing "Bridge". V. Business A. NU Telecom- September and Warren met with a representative of NU Telecom to discuss a possible arrangement for providing basic cable to the Center. The company agreed to provide the basic channels free of charge in exchange for having a sign put up at the Center acknowledging that NU Telecom is providing the service. Warren was instrumental in getting this accomplished. B. Spotlight on a Senior- September asked the board for their input on potential questions to throw out to our newsletter subscribers about their lives growing up. Ideas such as most memorable snowstorm, unusual date, and challenging jobs were thrown out along with others as possibilities. C. Other- Curt asked about the golfing net and September said she was still working on that possibility for this fall. Don threw out the idea of creating a policy of what we are willing to provide to our seniors at no cost. The group felt that a policy might be tricky to enforce and felt that the current method of providing services with board approval worked well enough. The board also discussed doing some giveaways, such as a ticket to the fellowship dinner, to newsletter subscribers to encourage participation at the Center. VI. Adjournment: Warren made a motion to adjourn at 11:07 am with a second from Curt. The motion passed. The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Monday, July 25th at 10:00 a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
