01-18-2016 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Monday January 18, 2016 at the Hutchinson Police Station. Present at the meeting were Chairperson Todd Brandel, Commissioner Curtis Hughes, and Chief Daniel Hatten. Call the Meeting to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Todd Brandel at 5:15 p.m. Approval of Agenda: Chairperson Brandel asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Hughes to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Chairperson Todd Brandel. The motion carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes: Chairperson Brandel asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the November 2015 meeting. Motion was made by Commissioner Hughes, seconded by Chairperson Todd Brandel to approve the meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. Staffing Issues: Chief Hatten informed the Police Commission the new Police Officer Michael Salazar has doing well at this point in his Field Training Program. Chief Hatten informed the Police Commission the new Police Officer Jacob Willers is still recovering from his injuries with another 8 weeks projected before he would be returned to full -duty. Chief Hatten informed the Police Commission that Jake Snyder submitted his resignation. He has taken a police officer position with the city of Prior Lake, MN. Officer Snyder's resignation has been accepted by Chief Hatten. Chief Hatten informed the Police Commission that Mikayla Mcllrath training was completed and she is doing well as a part-time Hospital Security Officer. Candidate Demars did not pass the psychological testing so the conditional offer of hire for part-time Hospital Security was rescinded. Chief Hatten informed the Police Commission that a conditional offer of hire was extended to Nicholas Wooster for the position of Police Officer. Mr. Wooster accepted the offer and the background investigation was underway. Chief Hatten informed the Police Commission the hiring process will continue with interviewing the 4 eligible candidates. Chief Hatten will be bringing the list of candidates forward for certification in the coming weeks. Union Update: Chief Hatten informed the Commission an arbitration date has been set for some time in February of 2016. Chief Hatten also informed the Commission about the MN Supreme Court considering a case involving public employee unions. Items from the Floor: Chief Hatten informed the Commission the incident involving Officer Jacob Willers on November 1St, 2015 was still under investigation by the BCA. Adjourn: Motion was made by Commissioner Hughes, seconded by Chairperson Brandel to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:26 pm.
