02-08-2016 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Monday February 8, 2016 at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were Commissioner Jo Piehl, Commissioner Todd Brandel, Commissioner Curtis Hughes,
and Chief Daniel Hatten.
Call the Meeting to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Chief Hatten at 5:18 p.m.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Brandel asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Hughes
to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Piehl. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Brandel asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the January 2016 meeting. Motion was
made by Commissioner Piehl, seconded by Commissioner Hughes to approve the meeting minutes. Motion carried
unanimously.
2016 Police Commission Officer Selection:
Commissioner Todd Brandel was appointed Chairperson for 2016.
Commissioner Jo Piehl was appointed Secretary for 2016.
The motion was made by Commissioner Hughes and seconded by Commissioner Piehl. Motion carried unanimously.
2016 Police Commission Meeting Dates:
It was determined the 2016 meeting dates would be the second Monday of the month at 5:00 pm. The location of
the meetings will continue to be held at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Staffing Issues:
Chief Hatten requested the Commission to approve the eligibility roster for the Part-time Security Position. There
were only four candidates on the list and all but one have been eliminated at this point. Motion was made by
Chairperson Brandel, seconded by Commissioner Hughes to certify the Part-time Hospital Security Officer eligibility
roster. Motion carried unanimously.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Matt Bergmann has been offered a conditional Part-time Hospital
Security position. The background investigation is currently under way.
Chief Hatten requested the Police Commission authorize him to begin the hiring process for Part-time Hospital
Security Officer to fill the current opening. There are no other candidates on the current eligibility list. Motion was
made by Commissioner Hughes, seconded by Commissioner Piehl to authorize the hiring process for Part-time
Hospital Security Officer. Motion carried unanimously.
Union Update:
Chief Hatten informed the Commission the police officers and the City of Hutchinson had an arbitration hearing on
Tuesday February 2, 2016 and are now waiting on the arbitrators decision.
Items from the Floor:
Officer Jake Willers tentative date to return to full duty is February 18t"
Adjourn: Motion was made by Commissioner Hughes, seconded by Commissioner Piehl to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:48 pm.
