The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. by Don Schroeder, chairperson. II. Secretary's Report: The September 22nd minutes were examined. Harriet made a motion to approve the minutes and Judy seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: September reported that the giving program has now topped $3700. Card sales for August and September totaled 705 which brought in $352.50 in revenue. Button bouquet sales totaled $133 while shotgun shell wreaths racked up another $800. Dish cloths completed the month with $58 in sales. Barb made a motion to accept the report with a second from Judy. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that the mystery tour ended up in Chipewa Falls where the group saw a performance including some very fine vocals. Another group will tour the Westminster Presbyterian and Plymouth Congregational churches this Wednesday while also checking out a candy store and dining at Jax Cafe. On November 16th a group will travel to Montevideo for lunch and then on to Dawson to hear a choral group. Don Shelby will be involved. The Old Log Theater will be performing "Life Could be a Dream" on December 11th . We will begin the new year with a January 7th trip to the Plymouth Playhouse for "Branson on the Road". Following that we will travel to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater in February to see "Hello Dolly". This is a pricier trip at $75 but there have been several requests for this particular venue. On March 19th we will visit Orchestra Hall for Rogers and Hammerstein's "Carousel" that includes a stop at Famous Dave's for lunch. The Minneapolis Institute of the Arts is the April destination of choice and on May 2nd we will travel to the Minnesota History Center for "The Songs of the Hutchinson's", a tribute to the music of the Hutchinson brothers. September brought up the topic of a tip for the bus driver on these tours. While the practice is commonplace, the Center has not tipped in the past and both Julie and September felt that a change is needed. After much discussion Darlene made a motion that beginning in March a $1 fee be added to each registration to be given as a tip for the driver while an additional $1 will be added for administrative costs. Judy seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved. B. Update on Programs- September noted that the school is still looking for seniors to help at the school. In the past this has involved only reading but other activities have now been added. The book clubs pretty much take care of themselves and are going well. The knitters are having fun on Friday sharing ideas while working on independent projects. The movie next month will be "Parkland" on thel9th and 20t . This movie is about the JFK assassination. A special showing of "Million Dollar Arm" will be held on November 17th . Table tennis is up and running and the Red Hat Society would like to promote a future event at the Center. V. Business A. Girl Singer Hit Parade- The last concert featuring the girl singers did not sell as many tickets as we had hoped but the performance was still very good. While it raised a few hundred dollars for the Center, it will be difficult to find groups in the future who are willing to work on a 60/40 split without some financial guarantee in place. B. Free Dance- A free dance was held on October 2nd to see if we could improve the numbers for our senior dances. Not many people were in attendance which left the board with the impression that these type of dances may have become outdated. Another factor involved is that free dances are already being offered in establishments that sell liquor. The liquor sales help cover the cost of the band. C. Evening Table Tennis- Some citizens have been asking if the tennis tables could be made available in the evening. The board concluded that as long as the activity didn't interfere with a senior event and covered the cost of the building attendant, it would be good to see the Center getting used. D. Other- No other business was brought before the board. VI. Adjournment: Barb made a motion to adjourn at 11:50 am with a second from Harriet. The motion passed. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 24th at 10:00 a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
