07-28-2014 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes July 28, 2014 Present: Julie Jensen, Don Schroeder, Judy Klawitter, Harriet Sturges, Curt Dahl, Warren Schuft, Barb Peterson City Staff: September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Darlene Kenning I. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Don Schroeder, chairperson. II. Secretary's Report: The June 23rd minutes were examined. Harriet made a motion to approve the minutes and Judy seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: Warren presented the current financials to the Advisory Board. Card sales amounted to $187 in May and June. Button Bouquet sales brought in another $15 this past month. Curt made a motion to accept the report with a second from Barb. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that the July cruise in Duluth went well with one minor mishap. The state fair visit scheduled for August 28th still has some openings while the September 24th mystery tour is sold out. In October a group will visit Westminster Presbyterian and Plymouth Congregational churches and include a stop at a candy store. This tour has sold out. On November 16th we will be traveling to Montevideo for lunch and then on to Dawson to hear a choral group. Don Shelby will be there and will interject some comments during the performance. The Old Log Theater will be hosting a performance of "Life Could be a Dream" on December 11th and we will have a tour headed in their direction. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the movie "Lone Survivor" was the presentation for July. A secondary movie, "Las Vegas ", was surprisingly popular with the audience. There are six people signed up for table tennis and a table has been donated. Play will begin on August 13th. Tickets are now on sale for the upcoming concert series with a few tickets sold for each show so far. There are forty people signed up at this time for tomorrow's Fellowship Dinner. Next month's meal will feature pork riblets and potato salad. The weather has been good for the senior kayaking events. V. Business A. Sound System- September informed the board that the speakers for the new sound system have been installed. B. Concession Stand Fundraiser- The Coin Show concession stand will be operating this Saturday, August 2"d. The board discussed possible items to sell at this event and the prices to be charged. C. Free Dance- A free dance will be held on October 2nd to gauge interest for this activity. The board discussed different ways to publicize this event to make every effort to get people involved. This will also serve as an "open house" to introduce the facility to any newcomers that like to dance. D. Jackpot Junction- The Jackpot Junction fundraiser will be held on September 8th Don will oversee this event. No transportation will be provided. E. Lighted Sign- Curt checked into the cost of a lighted sign for the Senior Center. The prices ranged from $9000 to $17000 depending on the system and size. It was suggested to check with the City to see if they would be interested in sharing the cost to help promote the Event Center. F. Other- Judy shared with the board that the numbering system was used for tour registration and that it went very well for the last event. This method will continue to be used for future tours. Don is looking for help in creating the gun shell wreaths. These were very popular but they do take some time to assemble. VI. Adjournment: Warren made a motion to adjourn at 11:21 am with a second from Curt. The motion passed. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 25th at 10:00 a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
