08-25-2014 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes August 25, 2014 Present: Julie Jensen, Don Schroeder, Judy Klawitter, Harriet Sturges, Curt Dahl, Barb Peterson, Darlene Kenning City Staff: September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Judy Klawitter, Warren Schuft I. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Don Schroeder, chairperson. II. Secretary's Report: The July 28th minutes were examined. Curt made a motion to approve the minutes and Barb seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: In Warren's absence, September presented the current financials to the Advisory Board. Card sales amounted to $174 in June and July. Button Bouquet sales brought in another $5 this past month and a shot gun wreath was sold for $20. Harriet made a motion to accept the report with a second from Curt. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that a senior trip is scheduled for this Thursday to attend the state fair. Next month on the 24th there will be a mystery tour. The October tour to Westminster Presbyterian and Plymouth Congregational churches that includes a stop at a candy store has sold out. On November 16th a group will travel to Montevideo for lunch and then on to Dawson to hear a choral group. Don Shelby will be involved in the performance. The Old Log Theater will be performing "Life Could be a Dream" on December 11th as our final tour of 2014. Julie has set to work on outings for 2015 including a March 19th visit to Orchestra Hall for "Carousel ", and a May 2nd trip to the Minnesota History Center for "The Songs of the Hutchinson's ", a tribute to the music of the Hutchinson brothers. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the Fellowship Dinner is scheduled for this Tuesday evening. The upcoming concerts will be advertised in the very near future. She reported that she received a good deal on advertising with both KDUZ and KARP. September hopes to arrange for an upcoming "Travel at a Glance" featuring Japan. Table tennis has met twice. We now own two tables with the second one purchased for $50 along with a donated one. Cards for the Jackpot Junction fundraiser are now being sold. The book clubs are doing well. The free dance is scheduled for October 2"d. Ladies are doing shell assemblies for the shotgun wreaths while taking a break from buttons. The coin show had good attendance but concession sales were low. Saturday, September 6th is our first concert of the fall, the Everly Brothers. The Senior Expo is Tuesday, September 23rd and includes breakfast and lunch for $8. To participate you must have your tickets by the 16th V. Business A. Sound System- September informed the board that the speakers for the new sound system have been installed and the video equipment will be connected in the near future. B. Free Dance- A free dance will be held on October 2nd to gauge interest for this activity. Flyers will be posted in area communities in the next few weeks. C. Jackpot Junction- The Jackpot Junction fundraiser will be held on September 8th Don will oversee this event. No transportation will be provided. D. Lighted Sign- No further updates on a potential electronic sign for the Senior Center. E. Other- No other business was brought before the board. VI. Adjournment: Curt made a motion to adjourn at 10:50 am with a second from Barb. The motion passed. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 22nd at 10:00 a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
