02-10-2014 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes February 10, 2014 Present: Julie Jensen, Don Schroeder, Judy Klawitter, Harriet Sturges, Curt Dahl, Darlene Kenning City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Warren Schuft, Barb Peterson I. The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by Don Schroeder, chairperson. IL Secretary's Report: The November minutes were examined. Harriet made a motion to approve the minutes and Curt seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: September presented a review of 2013 fundraisers. In the past year $1048 was brought in from chair cover rentals, $6946 from concerts, $1097 from tours, and $140 from the sale of dish cloths. Other activities that raised funds this past year included Jackpot Junction ($198), coaster sales ($70), button crafts ($821), card sales ($2293), gunshell wreaths ($737), and china flatware rentals ($816). The memorial plaque program recorded $3500 in donations. Curt made a motion to accept the report with a second from Harriet. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that the December 6th tour to Crown College sold out and had no issues other than very cold weather. The January 28th visit to the Landmark Center was marked by an impromptu evacuation of the building that was called off before the group had to hit the cold air outside. This month a group will check out the "Cooks on Crocus Hill" which features cooking skills on display along with a visit to a candy factory. This tour is sold out. On March 14th a group will head to the Paramount Theater to see an Irish concert in honor of St. Patrick's Day which will include a dinner at the Coyote Moon restaurant. An April 6th Minnetonka Choral Concert is on the calendar along with a May 4th Olympian Ice Show. May 17th will bring a visit to Hudson, Wisconsin to see a musical biography of the Righteous Brothers. In June we will see a rare split tour when a bus will travel to the state fairgrounds and then disperse the participants to one of two destinations- Como Park or a back to the `50's car show at the fairgrounds. Julie is in the process of putting together a tour to Duluth in July for a harbor cruise. B. Update on Programs- "New in Town ", "Gifted Hands ", and "The Butler" were given recent showings at the Senior Center. The next movie up will be the award winning "Captain Phillips ". West Elementary will start its reader listening program again in March. The fellowship dinner was ham and cabbage for January and this month they will be having broasted chicken. Coming up on February 21st will be the Center's first concert for the year - "Sirens of the Sixties ". This will be a two hour show with no dance. The Shadows have been booked for a show in September. V. Business A. New Board Members- Darlene Kenning and Curt Dahl were welcomed to the Advisory Board. They replace Bruce Bjerkelund and Rick Reiner who have stepped down. B. Other- Board members commented that the New Year's party had great food this year. Don mentioned that he had gone through some very early Senior Advisory Board minutes and we may have to change a few things to comply with the bylaws as they were written. This will show up on a future agenda. VI. Adjournment: Harriet made a motion to adjourn at 11:45 am with a second from Judy. The motion passed.
