10-15-2013 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday October 15, 2013 at the Hutchinson Police Station. Present at the meeting were Chairperson Julie Jensen, Commissioner Verne Meyer, and Chief Daniel Hatten. Commissioner Curtis Hughes was absent. Call the Meeting to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jensen at 5:00 p.m. Approval of Agenda: Chairperson Jensen asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Meyer to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Chairperson Jensen. The motion carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes: Chairperson Jensen asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the August meeting. Motion was made by Chairperson Jensen, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to approve the meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. Staffing Issues: Chief Hatten advised the Commission that Officer Jesse Duenow had resigned effective immediately. Chairperson Jensen asked the Commission to accept Jesse Duenow's resignation. Motion was made by Commissioner Meyer, seconded by Chairperson Jensen, to accept the resignation of Jesse Duenow. Motion carried unanimously. Chief Hatten advised the Commission the police officer hiring process to fill the current vacancy would be delayed until the spring of 2014. Chief Hatten advised the Commission Police Officer Phillip Mielke is progressing nicely through the field training process. Chief Hatten advised the Commission Police Officer Candidate Jake Snyder's background investigation has been completed, but are still waiting the results from the psychological testing. Chief Hatten advised the Commission the background investigations on the three full -time and one part-time security officer candidates have been completed, but are still waiting on the results from the psychological testing. These individuals are scheduled to begin on November 18, 2013. The hiring process for the remaining three part-time security officers would begin soon. Chief Hatten requested authorization to begin the hiring process for a full -time Communication Specialist to fill the vacancy left by Communication Specialist Katie Kuhnau, who moved from her full -time position to a part -time position. Motion was made by Chairperson Jensen, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to begin the hiring process for Communication Specialist. Motion carried unanimously. Union Update: Chief Hatten informed the Commission the negotiations were continuing with the city. Chief Hatten assured the Commissioners he would continue to keep them informed on the progress of the union issue. Items from the Floor: Chief Hatten advised the Commission the progress on the Hutchinson Law Enforcement Park is proceeding along well. Chief Hatten invited the Commissioners to attend the upcoming station meeting on Thursday October 24, 2013 at the Emergency Operation Center. With there being no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Commissioner Meyer, seconded by Chairperson Jensen, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
