07-11-2013 PACMPublic Arts Commission meeting
July 11, 2013
Present: Josh Schroeder, Mary Christensen, Dan Jochum, Lena Mowlem, Buzz Burich
Distribution of brochures: will be placed at hotels, winery. Josh will bring some to
place at River Song.
Consider a small flier that can be stuffed into other organization's packets for
events.
Reception of sculptures mainly positive, need to consider how to advertise better to
public. Incorporate it somehow into the Public Arts Day, if it's scheduled again. Use
as a treasure hunt?
People's choice award: question regarding consequence of winner: does the city
purchase sculpture or give a reward to artist?
Photo contest: not inclusive enough, we need to establish a program that has mass
appeal.
Start considering how the sculpture stroll can become self sustaining. Start
formulating a strategy on how to sell sponsorship. Suggested a $1000 for 5 years
commitment to sponsor a site.
Consideration of meeting frequency:
It was suggested we meet quarterly instead of monthly to ensure better
participation. Separate committees will work on various projects and may meet
more regularly, but the board as a whole meets quarterly.
Need to recruit new members to the board. Please send names of people interested
in being on the commission to the Mayor.
Police memorial: fund raising process has started. Plans are being finalized and
work with the artist (Deb Zeller) is on target.
Cemetery Project: No new information. Audrey will update at next meeting.
Other discussion:
Farmer's market site nearing completion, hopefully by early fall.
