Call to Order — Dan Jochum, interim chair
1. Tom Wirt has officially completed his service to the commission. Thank you Tom for your
leadership and vision for the past 6 years.
2. Joshua Schroeder — schriiawf4mail.com is our newly commissioned member.
3. Discussed meeting time and date — and if we should revisit what is convenient for our current
members. We will put this on the agenda for next meeting.
4. Discussion of Al Feser's "eagle" presentation from the last meeting
a. The commission felt he brought up a good concept and would like to have him consider
responding to an RFP when his works fit the criteria of projects that are proposed.
b. If we pursue the concept of a sculpture park with rotating pieces, this may be an
appropriate venue for his initial piece.
5. Set a date for a four -hour public art visioning & long range planning session
a. Ideas — look at other communities and how they display public art
b. Look at our community to see what spaces are available
c. Incorporate art as bike racks, park benches, picnic area
d. We will first meet at City Hall on 5 PM Monday, October 17th to tour possible locations
in Hutchinson.
i. View "park finder" on the city's webpage to see where all of the parks are if we
want to visit on our own.
ii. On our own - go to the Franconia website in Taylor's Fall and look at their
sculptures online.
e. Second meeting, Monday, October 24th meet at the City Center at 8 AM.
f. We will decide on our workshop date at the next meeting.
i. We will do some long -range planning and a timeline for our vision of Riverwalk
and other projects.
ii. Possibly incorporating this into the long -range plan for the city.
6. Dolf gave an update on the repair and reconditioning of the Hutchinson Brothers statue.
7. Discussion of near -term arts commission meeting agenda planning and leadership.
a. Everyone should send their agenda items to Dan Jochum and between him and Dolf, they
will take care of the meetings until we choose a chairperson.
