09-27-1993 HUCM97 - -- Regular Meeting September 27, 1993 All Commissioners were present; also present were Mgr. Kadrmas and Counsel Prochnow. Vice President Cornell called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. New Commission member, Mike Carls, was welcomed to the meeting. Vice President Cornell appointed Mgr. Kadrmas as acting chairman to conduct the election of officers. Nominations were requested for president. Commissioner Beatty nominated Commissioner Ward for president, nomination was seconded by Commissioner Gilmer. Commissioner Ward nominated Commissioner Cornell for president, nomination was seconded by Commissioner Cornell. There being no further nominations, a motion was made by Commissioner Beatty, seconded by Commissioner Gilmer to close nominations. Motion was unanimously carried. Commissioner Carls abstained from voting. Commissioner Ward withdrew his name from the ballot for president. Commissioner Cornell was duly elected and declared President of the Hutchinson Utilities Commission. President Cornell dismissed Mgr. Kadrmas and resumed the chair. Nominations were requested for vice president. Commissioner Gilmer nominated Commissioner Ward for vice president, nomination was seconded by Commissioner Beatty. There being no further nominations, a motion was made by Commissioner Gilmer, seconded by Commissioner Beatty to close nominations. Motion was unanimously carried. Commissioner Ward was duly elected and declared Vice President of the Hutchinson Utilities Commission. President Cornell made the following appointments: Secretary - Commissioner Beatty Legal Counsel - Dan Prochnow of Bradford, Prochnow & Newman Recording /Assistant Secretary - Sue Winter Planning Commission - Commissioner Gilmer Receive Drug Test Reports - Commissioner Cornell and Mgr. Kadrmas The minutes of August 30, 1993 regular meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Beatty to approve the minutes as written. Motion was unanimously carried. The August payables were discussed. A motion was made by Commissioner Beatty, seconded by Commissioner Gilmer to accept the August payables in the amount of $1,946,080.64 (detailed listing in payables book). Motion was unanimously carried. f 9© The 1993 year -to -date (thru August) financial and budget reports were reviewed. A motion was made by Commissioner Beatty, seconded by Commissioner Ward to accept the financial and budget reports. Motion was unanimously carried. Members from the Hutchinson Tree Board were welcomed to the meeting. The Tree Board informed the Commission that 694 energy conservation trees were planted in 1993. The Tree Board would like to plant at least 200 trees in 1994 and requested a contribution of $10,000 from Hutchinson Utilities. After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Beatty, seconded by Commissioner Carls to contribute $10,000 for 1994 energy conservation tree planting and to also contribute the difference of $10,000 already contributed for 1993 from the dollar amount available at year end (1993) for energy conservation program. Motion was unanimously carried. Manager's Report: 1. Was contacted by Hutchinson Lions Club to contribute to Hutchinson Community Halloween Party. After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Beatty, seconded by Commissioner Gilmer to deny request for contribution. Motion was unanimously carried. 2. Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association's (MMUA) annual fall meeting will be held at Radisson West in Minnetonka, MN on October 20 -22, 1993. A motion was made by Commissioner Carls, seconded by Commissioner Beatty to designate Commissioner Cornell as Hutchinson Utilities' voting delegate. Motion was unanimously carried. 3. Update on unit #1 (new generating unit). Old Business: Commissioner Ward updated Commission on labor union negotiations. After three meetings, labor negotiations were not settled; union will file for mediation.
