07-27-1980 HUCMRegular Meeting July 27, 1980 All Commissioners were present, also present were Mgr. Alexander, Ruth Hakel, Mayor Westlund and Eugene "Bud" Daggett. The meeting was called to order by President Quade at 9:00 a.m. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 30, 1980 were presented. On a motion by Commissioner Filk, seconded by Commissioner Tracy the minutes were accepted as presented in their printed form. The motion carried. President Quade congratulated Mr. Daggett on his appointment to the Utilities Commission. Mgr. Alexander presented the following: Informed the Commission of his having been approached by United Power Association concerning a power needs survey being conducted by United Power Association, Cooperative Power Association, Northern States Power and other bodies and agencies in the area. The survey included areas for upgrading lines, also ties. 1 As the term of Commissioner Quade expires on September 1, 1980, Mayor Westlund introduced council appointee, Eugene "Bud" Daggett. He suggested that Mr. Daggett attend current meetings of the Commission to become acquainted. The Mayor then briefly traced the course of the Utilities and its progress citing that the monies turned over each year to the City amounted to about 10 mills. Mr. Daggett then responded with his pledge to assume the position. President Quade congratulated Mr. Daggett on his appointment to the Utilities Commission. Mgr. Alexander presented the following: Informed the Commission of his having been approached by United Power Association concerning a power needs survey being conducted by United Power Association, Cooperative Power Association, Northern States Power and other bodies and agencies in the area. The survey included areas for upgrading lines, also ties. 1 Presented a West Central Minnesota Transmission Study prepared by Associated Consultants. After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Filk, seconded by Commissioner Tracy to have Associated Consultants continue with the survey in conjunction with United Power Association's survey. The motion carried. Reported the comparison of the gas and electric divisions gross sales for the first six months of 1979 versus the first six months of 1980. Presented the Westinghouse repair proposal for generator #2. On a motion by Commissioner Filk, seconded by Commissioner Tracy to accept the Westinghouse proposal in the amount of $61,774.00. The motion carried. Reported no further word from the firm of Douglas Thompson representing Miller and Christensen on electric rates. Reported that Home Insurance Company would not cover any part of damages on #4 and #7 generators. Cited that in contacting Mr. Polacek he in turn recommended the firm of Doherty, Rumble and Butler to handle the case. No action taken by the Commission pending further information. Reported unit #9 back on the line.
