09-11-1978 HUCM218 Regular Meeting September 11, 1978 All Commissioners were present, also Mgr. Alexander and Ruth Hakel. The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by President Quade. The minutes of the Special Meeting of July 19, 1978 were read and approved as read. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of August 9, 1978 were read and approved as read. The minutes of the Special Meeting of August 14, 1978 were read and approved as read. Mgr. Alexander reported on several items as follows: The Curtiss - Wright unit has been running with control problems. An air conditioner was installed to cool the control room, solving the control problems. Since the repair of the unit, vibration problems are at "a minimum. Representatives of the Curtiss - Wright Corporation will be meeting with Mgr. Alexander on Thursday, September 14, 1978. Reported that General Electric would charge $107,000 for buckets needed for the General Electric stag unit #8 and that perhaps 30% could be saved if they were obtained from another firm. Concerning an insurance inspection by Farmers Union personel, the Utilities was rated 4.88 - more on coverage and rates at a later date. A building to store oil and wire would cost approximately $40,000 to $45,000. The work on the cooling tower will start as soon as drawings for the base arrive. Generator #7 is expected to be back in operation soon while #4 has to be removed and taken in to Westinghouse for repairs. Mgr. Alexander asked that "Butch" Wentworth be sent to an American Public Power Association school on Underground Design and Structure at Kansas City, KS, on September 25 -28. The Commission approved. 219 A proposal citing the need for a 40 KVA transformer drawn up by Bill Marquardt and presented by Mgr. Alexander was discussed. The Commission asked for prices on a 30, 40 and 50 KVA transformer. A motion was made by Commissioner Filk, seconded by Commissioner Tracy that approximately $200,000 would be contributed to the City of Hutchinson for the year 1979 to be paid in quarterly payments. After discussion, the motion carried. unanimously. A motion was made by Commissioner Tracy, seconded by Commissioner Filk to authorize monthly safety meetings, also encourage improving safety standards and first aid procedures. The motion carried. Mgr. Alexander reported that the propane tanks were being installed and would be ready for winter use. Dennis McGill of Thorsen, Campbell, Rolando & Lehne appeared to explain and answer questions on the Financial Statements six months ending June 30, 1978. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Christensen appeared citing their high utility bill. They reported using 2340 kilowatts for the past period. Upon comparisons with other rural accounts, it was felt that perhaps they had equipment using excessive -electricity. Mgr. Alexander suggested that he send someone out to do some checking and perhaps metering of certain appliances. If these efforts fail, another meeting would take place.
