Regular Meeting
September 11, 1978
All Commissioners were present, also Mgr. Alexander and Ruth
Hakel.
The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by President
Quade.
The minutes of the Special Meeting of July 19, 1978 were
read and approved as read.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of August 9, 1978 were
read and approved as read.
The minutes of the Special Meeting of August 14, 1978 were
read and approved as read.
Mgr. Alexander reported on several items as follows:
The Curtiss - Wright unit has been running with control
problems. An air conditioner was installed to cool
the control room, solving the control problems. Since
the repair of the unit, vibration problems are at "a
minimum. Representatives of the Curtiss - Wright Corporation
will be meeting with Mgr. Alexander on Thursday,
September 14, 1978.
Reported that General Electric would charge $107,000 for
buckets needed for the General Electric stag unit #8 and
that perhaps 30% could be saved if they were obtained from
another firm.
Concerning an insurance inspection by Farmers Union
personel, the Utilities was rated 4.88 - more on coverage
and rates at a later date.
A building to store oil and wire would cost approximately
$40,000 to $45,000.
The work on the cooling tower will start as soon as
drawings for the base arrive.
Generator #7 is expected to be back in operation soon
while #4 has to be removed and taken in to Westinghouse
for repairs.
Mgr. Alexander asked that "Butch" Wentworth be sent to an
American Public Power Association school on Underground
Design and Structure at Kansas City, KS, on September 25 -28.
The Commission approved.
219
A proposal citing the need for a 40 KVA transformer drawn
up by Bill Marquardt and presented by Mgr. Alexander was
discussed. The Commission asked for prices on a 30, 40
and 50 KVA transformer.
A motion was made by Commissioner Filk, seconded by Commissioner
Tracy that approximately $200,000 would be contributed to
the City of Hutchinson for the year 1979 to be paid in
quarterly payments. After discussion, the motion carried.
unanimously.
A motion was made by Commissioner Tracy, seconded by Commissioner
Filk to authorize monthly safety meetings, also encourage
improving safety standards and first aid procedures. The
motion carried.
Mgr. Alexander reported that the propane tanks were being
installed and would be ready for winter use.
Dennis McGill of Thorsen, Campbell, Rolando & Lehne appeared
to explain and answer questions on the Financial Statements
six months ending June 30, 1978.
Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Christensen appeared citing their high
utility bill. They reported using 2340 kilowatts for the
past period. Upon comparisons with other rural accounts,
it was felt that perhaps they had equipment using excessive
-electricity. Mgr. Alexander suggested that he send someone
out to do some checking and perhaps metering of certain
appliances. If these efforts fail, another meeting would
take place.
The Regular Meeting date for October was set for October 16._
