05-31-1978 HUCMX99 Special Meeting May 31, 1978 All Commissioners were present, also Mgr. Alexander, Counsel Peterson and Ruth Hakel. The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. by President Quade. The first item of business was the union wage discussion. President Quade appointed Commissioner Filk to be the Commissioner representative at the union meeting called for June 7, 1978. Mgr. Alexander and Counsel Peterson will also be in attendance. The proposal presented by the union was discussed in detail. Mgr. Alexander reported on the amount still owed to Pittsburgh -Des Moines. After discussion on paint problems on one tank, it was decided to resolve the problem and make the final payment at the next regular meeting. Mgr. Alexander reported on the generator failure on units #3 and #4. He then presented a proposal to purchase an Onan 30 KW Generating Set to operate on natural gas fuel. This unit would be used for emergency lights and power for starting engines. After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Tracy, seconded by Commissioner Filk and carried to purchase the Onan 30 KW Generating Set complete with automatic start and stop equipment with mounted control console for a total expenditure of $6,520.80. Mgr. Alexander was instructed to purchase the unit as soon as possible. Mgr. Alexander presented some tentative costs of a new cell at the cooling tower which in its entirety could cost about $141,000.00. To make a repair to the cooling tower to cut moisture drift etc. would run about $42,000.00. After discussion a motion was made by Commissioner Filk, seconded by Commissioner Tracy and carried to draw plans and specs for the necessary equipment to add a new cell to the cooling tower with the auxiliary items necessary. Mgr. Alexander was instructed to contact Associated Consultants on this construction. Or') After discussion a motion was made by Commissioner Filk, seconded by Commissioner Tracy and carried to move Gordon Fratzke and Joan Limvere from employee status to staff positions effective June 1, 1978 at their present rate of pay with a salary review on July 1, 1978.
