08-16-2012 APM+HUTCHINSON AIRPORT COMMISSION August 16, 2012 5:30 p.m. Airport Arrival/Departure Building Meeting Notes Members present: Juli Neuharth, Eric Yost (Council Representative) Members absent: Doug McGraw, Dick Freeman, Joel Schwarze, Ross Peterson Others Present: John Olson, City of Hutchinson; Tom Parker, Hutchinson Aviation; Others present: Dave Skaar Meeting held at 5:30 p.m. There was not a quorum of members present 1. Approve July 19, 2012 Airport Commission Minutes A quorum of members was not present, so there was no action taken. 2. Airport Commission Dick Freeman (to 09/12, first fiill -teen) Juli Neuharth (to 09/13, first fiill -teen) Doug McGraw (to 09/14, second fiill -teen) Joel Schwarze (to 09/15, first fiill -teen) Ross Peterson (to 09/16, first fiill -teen) Eric Yost (Council representative) For ineeting schedules & interest forms for serving on the Airport Commission, see www.ci.hutchinson.mn.us Dave Skaar indicated his interest in serving on the Airport Commission again in the future. 3. Operational Issues (Open Proiects) a) 2012 AIP — Tractor Replacement — Update. Olson reported that both the FAA and MnDOT grants had been received and the City Council approved the transaction at their 08/14/2012 meeting. b) CIP review. Reminder to identify any CIP items and let Olson know about them. At an upcoming meeting this fall, the Commission can discuss the list, prioritize the projects, and add anything that is missing. Olson reported that a snow removal equipment building was discussed at the City Council meeting as a potential addition to a CIP. 4. Other Discussions/ New Business a) LED lighting — LED lighting for hangar interiors and parking lot lights was installed. Staff has submitted costs to HUC for a potential rebate. The retrofits cost: 5 ea. 75W LED, replacing 250W HPS fixtures — parking lot $1,495 875W savings 24 ea. IOW LED, replacing 100W INC fixtures — hangars $1,008 2,160 W savings 1 ea. 50W LED, replacing 150W cobra head — parking lot $ 299 100 W savings Shipping & installations $ 949 Tax 193 Total $3,944 3,135 W savings b) NDB building. All hazardous materials from the NDB building have been removed. Building can be razed after electrical /communication lines are moved (expected by mid - September) c) Other items: a. Mosquito Control of Iowa. A request was made to allow them to host an open house at the airport. Their target audience would likely be local government officials in the region. There was support for this activity from those present. Olson will follow up with them and also have them contact Tom Parker, if there are any unique needs they may have. b. They would be having a sandwich bar and/or snacks. The demonstrations would feature their mosquito control products and services, including aerial and ground applications. The event would be held from mid - afternoon until about 8:00 p.m. There would be no interference with air traffic. If there is air traffic, Mosquito Control of Iowa will defer the traffic.
