11-20-2012 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday November 20, 2012 at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were Chairperson Verne Meyer, Commissioner Julie Jensen, Commissioner Curtis Hughes,
and Chief Daniel Hatten.
Call the Meeting to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Meyer at 5:30 p.m.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Meyer asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Hughes
to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Jensen. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Meyer asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the October meeting. Motion was made by
Commissioner Jensen, seconded by Commissioner Hughes, to approve the meeting minutes. Motion carried
unanimously.
Staffing Issues:
Chief Hatten advised the Commission that Officer Tyson RaineyÓs probationary period is progressing without issue or
concern at this time.
Chief Hatten advised the Commission that Records Specialist Amanda MaylandÓs probationary period is progressing
without issue or concern at this time.
Chief Hatten advised the Commission that Communication Specialist Gina Riss had submitted her resignation, with
her last day of employment being October 28, 2012. A motion was made by Commissioner Jensen, seconded by
Commissioner Hughes, to accept the resignation. Motion carried unanimously.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that the City Manager had authorized filling the Communication Specialist
position vacated by Gina Riss. Chief Hatten reminded the Commission the certified eligibility roster Communication
Specialist is still valid until December 20, 2012. The Commission directed Chief Hatten to contact the next individuals
on the list before beginning a new testing process.
Union Update:
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that as of this date the City had not yet been contacted by union
representatives. Chief Hatten assured the Commissioners he would keep them informed on the progress of the
union issue.
BCA Investigation/Internal Update:
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that the internal investigation into alleged department policy violations by
Hutchinson Officers had been completed. Chief Hatten stated his final determination pending legal review, with the
th
officers being notified the week of November 26. Chief Hatten assured the Commissioners he would notify them if
the officers request an appeal of the outcome and discipline.
Items from the Floor:
There were no items from the floor at this time.
With there being no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Commissioner Jensen, seconded by
Commissioner Hughes, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
