10-16-2012 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday October 16, 2012 at the Hutchinson Police Station. Present at the meeting were Chairperson Verne Meyer, Commissioner Julie Jensen, and Chief Daniel Hatten. Call the Meeting to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Meyer at 5:38 p.m. Approval of Agenda: Chairperson Meyer asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Jensen to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Chairperson Meyer. The motion carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes: Chairperson Meyer asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the August meeting. The September meeting was cancelled by the Commissioners. Motion was made by Commissioner Jensen, seconded by th Chairperson Meyer, to approve the minutes from the July 25 meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Staffing Issues: Chief Hatten advised the Commission that the field training of Officer Tyson Rainey was completed and his probationary period is progressing without issue or concern at this time. Chief Hatten advised the Commission that the training of Communication Specialist Gina Ross was completed as of Friday October 12, 2012, and her probationary period is progressing without issue or concern at this time. Chief Hatten advised the Commission that the training of Records Specialist Amanda Mayland is progressing without issue or concern at this time. Union Update: Chief Hatten updated the Commission on the upcoming union vote for the 15 police officers in the department impacted by this vote. The ballots were mailed out by the Bureau of Mediation Services on October 11, 2012. The completed ballots must be received by the Bureau of Mediation Services by October 22, 2012, with ballots being counted on the morning of October 23, 2012. Chief Hatten assured the Commissioners he would notify them of the results as soon as he was made aware. BCA Investigation/Internal Update: Chief Hatten informed the Commission that the BCA investigation into the alleged criminal violations by Hutchinson Officers was completed, as was the case review by the Hennepin County ProsecutorÓs Office. The prosecutorÓs office declined to file charges, so the case was forwarded to the Hutchinson Police Department. Chief Hatten stated the departmentÓs internal investigations which were initiated back in May of 2012 but suspended due to the criminal investigation will now be completed. The internal will take an extended period of time do to extensive documentation related to the case. Chief Hatten assured the Commissioners he would keep them informed on the progress of this investigation. Items from the Floor: There were no items from the floor at this time. With there being no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Commissioner Jensen, seconded by Chairperson Meyer, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
