02-06-2012 POLM Hutchinson Police Commission Minutes The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Monday February 6, 2012 at the Hutchinson Police Station. Present at the meeting were Chairperson Julie Jensen, Commissioners Mark Jelkin, and Verne Meyer, and Chief Daniel Hatten. Call the Meeting to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jensen at 5:24 p.m. Approval of Agenda: Chairperson Jensen asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Jelkin to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Meyer. The motion carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes: th Chairperson Jensen asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the December 20 meeting. Motion was made by Commissioner Meyer, seconded by Commissioner Jelkin, to approve the minutes from the November meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Appointment of Commission Officers: Commissioner Jelkin reminded the Commission his second 3-year term would be completed in May of this year so he would not be submitting his name for an officer position on the Commission. Commissioner Meyer was appointed Chairperson for 2012. Commissioner Jensen was appointed Secretary for 2012. The motions were made by Commissioner Jelkin and seconded by Commissioner Meyer. Motions carried unanimously. 2011 Meeting Dates: rd For 2012 the Hutchinson Police Commission has selected the 3 Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm for their monthly meetings. The location of the meetings will be at the Hutchinson Police Emergency Operation Center, 44 Washington Ave W, Hutchinson, MN 55350. Staffing Issues: Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Officer GardnerÓs progress is continuing to be evaluated on a weekly basis which includes weekly meetings with Sergeant Ament. Updates from Lieutenant Gifferson and Sergeant Ament are that Officer GardnerÓs work performance continues to improve. No action required by the Commission. Review of Part-time Communication Specialist Testing: Chief Hatten presented a summary of the two candidates for the position of Part-time Communication Specialist, Karen Ober and Michael Beilke. The backgrounds, medical physicals, and drug testing have been completed. The background and drug test results were back with no concern; the psychological examinations have not yet been completed at the time of the meeting. Chief Hatten informed the Commission that, following successful completion of these tests, the City would be prepared to remove the conditional offer of hire and formally offer Ober and Beilke part- time positions of Communication Specialist. A motion was made by Commissioner Jelkin, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to authorize Chief Hatten to make a formal offer of hire to Ober and Beilke following the successful completion of the background investigation, medical physical, psychological examination, and drug testing,. The motion carried unanimously. Items from the Floor: With there being no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Commissioner Meyer, seconded by Commissioner Jelkin, to adjourn the meeting.
