05-20-2013 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes May 20, 2013 Present: Julie Jensen, Warren Schuft, Rick Reiner, Don Schroeder, Judy Klawitter, Harriet Sturges City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: Barb Peterson L The meeting was called to order at 10:07 a.m. by Harriet Sturges, acting chairperson. IL Secretary's Report: The April minutes were examined. Warren made a motion to approve the minutes and Rick seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported that we currently have a bank balance of $7514. There has been $2400 donated to the memorial program so far. Card sales last month added up to $191 while $22 worth of dish cloths were sold. The button crafts brought in $151. Rick made a motion to accept the report with a second from Judy. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- The Old Log Theater is being renovated so May's tour has been cancelled. The theater will reopen in June. The June 18th trip to Clear Lake is sold out as is the July 30th Lake Minnetonka trip. An August 291h state fair trip has 13 signed up at this time. On September 12th we will make a return trip to the Plymouth Playhouse for another episode of the "Church Basement Ladies." A group will be traveling to Warrens, Wisconsin for a tour of the cranberry bogs on October 8th. November 12th is the date for a visit to the Swedish Institute in the Twin Cities which will be decorated for Christmas. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the "Travel at a Glance" talk was on Cuba this past month. Next month will feature a visit to Australia and New Zealand with Dean Dietel. "Silver Linings Playbook" was popular with some but it did not carry the entire audience as the movie of the month. The Fellowship Dinner went well. The Wii bowling remains popular. Duplicate bridge is trying to develop a regular group but it has been small so far. Regular bridge is planning on two tournaments each month. New in June will be a yoga class led by Karen Shaw. The dance this month featured Michael's one -man band and it drew 32 people. The Red Hat fashion show is sold out with 60 people coming. A broasted chicken dinner will be served for the Fellowship meal. V. Business A. Buddy Holly /Beatles Show — "Buddy Holly Meets the Beatles" was presented at the Event Center on May 18th. 231 tickets were sold for the event and most people came away with a good impression of the entertainment. The next concert is scheduled for September 27th. This fundraiser for the Senior Center resulted in a net profit of approximately $1700. B. New Chairperson- A new chairperson for the advisory board is needed. September will look at Roberts Rules of Order to determine whether the vice - chair automatically moves up or if an election is needed. C. Craft Sale Results- The Craft Sale turned out to be mostly vendors selling different products like Tupperware and was not a craft sale. This resulted in virtually no sales for the Senior Center button crafts and dish cloths. D. Other- Rick reminded the group that the charter needs to be updated for the advisory board. Copies will be sent out and a committee may be composed to suggest the needed changes. Don reported that his card group is moving to the kitchen to keep the noise down in the rest of the Center. September asked that the Advisory Board consider purchasing an additional projector for the Center to help accommodate multiple events. She also thought that a coffee cart should be considered. Rick made a motion seconded by Warren to purchase another projecter at an anticipated cost of $800. The board unanimously approved the motion. VI. Adjournment: Warren made a motion to adjourn at 11:20am with a second from Rick. The motion passed. Next Meeting: Monday, June 24th at 10:00 a.m. - John McRaith, Secretary
