November 26, 2012

L The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. by Carrol Olson
II. Secretary's Report: The October minutes were examined. Rick made a motion to
approve the minutes and Harriet seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported that in the last month we had $235 in card sales
along with $2862 from a tour reimbursement and $4 from dish cloths. The current
bank balance is $7283.09. Don made a motion to accept the report with a second
from Rick. The motion passed.
IV. Old Business
A. Tours- Julie reported that the November 29th tour to the history museum and
Famous Dave's is sold out as is the December trip to the Christmas pageant. An
April 18th trip to see "Ring of Fire" about the life and times of Johnny Cash at the
Plymouth Playhouse will be on tap for the coming year. This is in addition to the
other tours already scheduled. These include a sold out tour of Hutchinson and the
Crow River winery in January with a stop at Zella's for lunch, a February trip into
our past called "Murder in McLeod County" with a turkey dinner at the museum,
and a March trip to St. Cloud to hear "Celtic Tenors ". Julie is also planning a May
trip to the Old Log Theater.
B. Update on Programs- September reported that the Fellowship Dinner for November
has about 40 people registered. "Travel at a Glance" will be touring different
Christmas markets in Europe in a half hour video. The December movie is Clint
Eastwood's "Trouble with the Curve ". The AARP free drivers training program
for veterans had about 60 participants. The video road trip "Route 66" finishes up
this Thursday.
V. Business
A. Fundraiser- The Shadow Tribute Band will potentially host a fundraiser for the
Senior Center on Saturday, February 22"d . September reported that they would
be willing to work on a percentage basis with no guarantee. The band pays
tribute to the great singers and groups of the 50's and 60's. Rick made a motion
to pursue this opportunity with a second from Warren. The board unanimously
agreed. September will have further discussions with the band to iron out the
details.
B. Mission Statement- The Senior Advisory Board helped to create a new mission
statement for the Center. This was needed to apply for certain grants. The new
mission statement will be " The mission of the Hutchinson Senior Center is to
provide a friendly and welcoming environment that promotes, supports, and
engages our local adults aged fifty -five years and older through weekly
programming and volunteer civic participation."
C. New Board Members- Barb Peterson and Don Schroeder agreed to sign on for
three -year terms. The board is now set for 2013.
D. Other- Carroll requested that the City look at the ordinance setting up the Senior
Advisory Board. He felt that many things have changed since it was created
and that the ordinance should be updated.
VI. Adjournment: Rick made a motion to adjourn at 11:11 am with a second from Harriet.
The motion passed.
