L The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Carrol Olson
IL Secretary's Report: The May minutes were examined. Harriet made a motion to
approve the minutes and Rick seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported that in the last month we had $190 in card sales,
$40 in dishcloth sales and a tour reimbursement of $240. Cliff made a motion to
accept the report with a second from Rick. The motion passed.
IV. Old Business
A. Tours- Julie reported that the Mall of America trip broke even. She had some
interesting challenges during the tour but everything worked out well. Coming this
July 24th is the Breezy Point tour which is sold out, and the August 30th state fair
trip, which already has 28 registered. This fall's mystery tour sold out immediately
upon opening ticket sales. An October 91h mystery dinner has been added to the list
along with a November 29th trip to the Minnesota History Theater, which includes a
stop at Famous Dave's restaurant. Julie is still pondering the December trip but a
North Heights presentation of "It's a Wonderful Life" with an evangelical slant to it
is a possibility. After discussing the demand for mystery tour tickets, it was
decided that each person will be limited to a maximum of four tickets so that a
group doesn't end up taking a majority of the seats before everyone else gets a
chance. Harriet made the motion with a second from Rick and it was approved.
This policy change begins in August. Some people were wondering why a second
bus wasn't added but that just doesn't work when purchasing tickets and making
dinner reservations far in advance for these events.
B. Update on Programs- September reported that the Fellowship Dinner has only 30
people signed up for the broasted chicken meal. One of the caterers asked that the
dinner be switched to Tuesday so that it would fit their schedule better and allow
them to serve the smaller group. Since the numbers weren't strong on Mondays
anyway, it was decided to try this in August and see how it turns out. Travel at a
Glance headed to Switzerland last month and the movie presented was "We Bought
a Zoo ". The Tuesday exercise class with videos is going fine but they still like to
have a live person lead them as they follow the videos. "Remembering Mount St.
Helens was presented for the third time and had its biggest turnout so far. Travel at
a Glance will be back with a trip to China in July. "This Means War" is the
upcoming movie. Dances will be held in August, September, and October.
V. Business
A. Fundraiser- The fundraiser held on June 19th was an overwhelming success.
The event drew 225 people and raised $1575 for the Center. Some discussion
was held about bringing back the same entertainer during the Christmas season
but the board decided that it would be best to wait until next year to have him
back.
B. Memorial Plaque- The board made some decisions on the size of each
individual plate on the memorial plaque. The cost will be about $325 to prepare
the plaque and then it will be ready to use. Each individual plate will cost $4 to
have it engraved.
C. Potential Casino Fundraiser- Don is checking into a possible fundraiser in
conjunction with the Morton casino. He will investigate further.
VI. Adjournment: Warren made a motion to adjourn at 11:30am with a second from Don.
The motion passed.
Next Meeting: Monday, July 23rd at 10:00 a.m. - John McRaith, Secretary
