03-26-2012 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes March 26, 2012 Present: Cliff Swanson, Carrol Olson, Julie Jensen, Judy Klawitter, Warren Schuft, Rick Reiner, Harriet Sturges City Staff. September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: None L The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. by Carrol Olson IL Secretary's Report: The February minutes were examined. Harriet made a motion to approve the minutes and Rick seconded the motion. The motion was approved. III. Treasurer's Report: Warren reported the current bank balance is $6531. Last month we had $196 in card sales and $100 in tax donations. There was also a tour reimbursement of $704. Cliff made a motion to accept the report with a second from Rick. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A. Tours- Julie reported that the March tour to Macy's tomorrow, which include's lunch at Murray's, is sold out. They will also visit the Como Park Conservatory. The timing appears to be ideal with nice fresh flowers due to the early spring. The April 24th trip to the Lafayette Club is also sold out while the showboat tour has 38. June will bring a tour to the Dianna exhibit at the Mall of America, and July will include a Breezy Point cruise on Pelican Lake. Already planned for late summer and fall is an August visit to the state fair, a September mystery tour and an October mystery dinner tour. B. Update on Programs- September reported that the fellowship dinner has only 28 signed up for irish stew. The movie "The Grace Card' was well received. Next month the movie is "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close ". The "Planet Earth" series is over now but the group really enjoyed them. Massages are available once a month and it is really a good deal for only $5. The book clubs are doing well. The exercise class with videos was intended to fill in for Karen Shaw while she was unavailable. Participants requested that they be continued even though Karen is back. Line dancing is still going strong. The tax program has had some issues with keeping regular hours. The board discussed the situation and decided that we must have some predictability for the seniors coming to have their taxes done or just drop the program. Some local tax services will do senior returns for as cheap as $10 a return. September will discuss this with the tax preparers. This month Travel at a Glance will head to Australia. The April Fellowship Dinner will feature sliced roast beef. The Senior Dance in March broke even financially and featured the Night Owls. The new schedule for dances will be March, April, and May, and then resume in August, September, and October. The biking club will be starting next month at 9:30a on Tuesdays. Tracy will begin the program but the group will have no specific leader once it is up and running. Karen Kurth is a new worker at the Center and her hours are funded through a separate state agency. Thursday, April 26th is the date for this year's volunteer luncheon. Volunteers will get five dollars in Hutch Bucks as a token of our appreciation. Net Flix is up and running and a new Blue Ray dvd player has been purchased. The donation box is now available at the Center. The suggested donation will be one dollar per week. V. Business A. Board Members- The board was saddened by the news that Louise Jessen, current board member, had passed away last week. The board was asked to consider options for a memorial in her honor. Her enthusiasm and cheerfulness will be greatly missed. VI. Adjournment: Warren made a motion to adjourn at 11:45am with a second from Rick. The motion passed.
