II. Secretary’s Report: The March minutes were examined. Rick made a motion to
approve the minutes and Harriet seconded the motion. Motion was approved.
III. Treasurer’s Report: Randy reported income this past month of $236 from card sales
and tax donations brought in $157. The last dance netted a $34 loss. The current
balance is $4542.94. Harriet made a motion to accept the report with a second from
Rick. The motion passed.
IV. Old Business
th
A.Tours- An April 7 trip to Willmar to see “Hello Dolly” in the Barn Theater was
successful but also experienced a mishap. One of the participants fell and was
injured at the theater. Julie stressed the importance of collecting contact
information cards on everyone involved in tours at the Center. The next tour will
head to the Historical Center to see a presentation on Buddy Holly. Unfortunately,
the restaurant scheduled for this visit has closed recently. Julie was able to
schedule a dining experience at the Lake Elmo Inn as a quality replacement. The
rd
June 23 Mississippi boat tour filled in 90 minutes and currently has 16 on the
waitlist. In July a group will travel to the new Kimball winery for a tour and lunch.
B.Update on Programs- The volunteer luncheon went well and the continental
breakfast idea was well received. The “Wonders of Nature” video tour was very
interesting and will be followed with “Atlantic Vistas” for May. Last month’s
movie “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” was well attended. The book clubs are
going smoothly. The WII bowling is popular but crowded. September is hoping to
get another console from Best Buy to speed things up. Randy noted that the dance
floor had some dangerous pieces at the last dance and that we need to be careful
about installing it properly. Seniors have a chance to learn more about the internet
th
on May 26 as a guest speaker will be coming in to speak about social media. “The
th
Kings Speech” will be the movie of the month on May 19.
V.Business
A.Pool Concessions- The Senior Center will again be covering Mondays through
Wednesdays at the pool this summer. Volunteers may still sign up and most of
the shifts have been covered.
B.Listeners- West Elementary is always looking for seniors to volunteer with the
listeners program. In this activity an adult listens to a child read one-on-one
which greatly improves the chances for that child to become a better reader.
C.Book Shelves- September gave the board a tour of the room in which the new
books shelves had been installed. This will greatly enhance this area for storage
capabilities.
VI. Adjournment: Harriet made a motion to adjourn at 10:45am with a second from Cliff.
The motion passed.
Next Meeting: Monday, May 23rd at 10:00 a.m.
