03-28-2011 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes March 28, 2011 Present: Harriet Sturges, Phyllis Birkholz, Louise Jessen, Cliff Swanson, Rick Reiner, Carrol Olson, Randy Bullert City Staff: September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: None I. The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. by Carrol Olson II. Secretary’s Report: The February minutes were examined. Harriet made a motion to approve the minutes and Rick seconded the motion. Motion was approved. III. Treasurer’s Report: Randy reported income this past month of $200 from card sales and $68 from dish cloth sales. Tax donations brought in $205. The current balance is $6219.54. Harriet made a motion to accept the report with a second from Cliff. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A.Tours- Julie reported that the next trip is this week to the Plymouth Playhouse to see “The Marvelous Wonderettes”. The tour will include 31 participants. An th upcoming trip to Willmar on April 7 has 28 registered, and the Buddy Holly tour is already at 35 and counting. So far Julie has not seen any significant increases from the bus lines and she has been happy with their service. With rising fuel prices, travel costs may rise for our tours. B.Update on Programs- September reported that the history program on fur trading was well attended with 70 people. This would be a good event to have again if more opportunities arise. Travel at a Glance took a look at man-made creations this past month. Next month it will be nature’s turn as the group looks at natural creations. “The Rabbit-Proof Fence” went over well as the March movie. In April there will be another chance to see a serious, thought-provoking movie called “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”. The Fellowship Dinner is tonight and registration is a little slower than normal. The special event called “A Night to Remember” has not th had much of a response so far and may be cancelled. It was scheduled for April 9. th The volunteer appreciation luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, April 14. It will include a continental breakfast and is scheduled for 10:00a. This year’s gift will be th a ticket to the Sweet Adelines concert being held on April 16. Bone Builders continues to do well. V.Business A.Air Pump Coffee Pots- September reported that the coffee pots have been purchased and are working out well. Members got to see one of the pots during the meeting. These pots will be used strictly for Senior Center events and will not be available to Event Center activities. B.Tax Preparer- An additional person is helping on Wednesdays doing tax preparations. Everything seems to be going smoothly so far with this program. C.Refrigerator- Before purchasing a new refrigerator, September polled the board on an appropriate size for this fixture. The board recommended that the new refrigerator be slightly larger than the current one.September took that recommendation and will make the purchase. VI.
