11-22-2010 SAMSenior Advisory Board Minutes November 22, 2010 Present: Harriet Sturges, Phyllis Birkholz, Louise Jessen, Cliff Swanson, Rick Reiner, Carrol Olson, Randy Bullert City Staff: September Jacobsen, John McRaith Absent: None I. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Carrol Olson II. Secretary’s Report: The October minutes were examined. Louise made a motion to approve the minutes and Harriet seconded the motion. Motion was approved. III. Treasurer’s Report: Randy reported income this past month of $223 from card sales and $19.50 from dish cloth sales. The current balance is $7826.95. Harriet made a motion to accept the report with a second from Cliff. The motion passed. IV. Old Business A.Tours- September reported that the trip to Crown College for the Christmas Concert almost filled with a count of 41 participants. In February, Julie has scheduled a trip to New Prague which will have a Czechoslovakian theme. Other trips for the new year are in the planning stages and will be advertised within the next month or so. B.Update on Programs- The Fellowship Dinner is coming up shortly and registration is a little slower than normal. Some board members thought that having a turkey dinner right after Thanksgiving may be a problem. The wine tasting event went well and September is considering a beer tasting event. “The Young Victoria” was this month’s movie and was well received. A request for a similar movie has been made for sometime in the future. Seniors traveled via video to Canada and got a taste of Moose meatballs in the process. In December the group will head to Alaska. The New Year’s party will be on thst December 30 at 11:30a due to the City holiday on the 31. “Charlie St. Cloud” will be the movie for December. A dinner dance is scheduled for th January 19 and tickets are on sale. John Hassinger is promoting cross country skiing and will attempt to form a club. The Book Club has decided to meet the third Wednesday of each month now that Fridays are no longer an option. This will begin in January. The knitters are making fingerless gloves which are on sale for $5 each at the Center. It is time for seniors to renew their newsletter subscriptions. They have a free alternative if they wish to receive the newsletter by e-mail. V.New Business A.Street Renovation- The street to the north of the Senior Center will be repaired in the next few months. This will clean up the rather messy area that exists now. September will give updates as the project progresses. B.Crosswalk- The Senior Board requested that a crosswalk be painted near the entrance to the Center. September will follow up on this request. C.Senior Advisory Board Members- Carrol, Rick and Harriet all have expiring terms this year for the advisory board. Rick and Harriet are completing terms which were vacated by John and June Lyman. All three have agreed to continue for another three-year term. VI. Adjournment: Rick made a motion to adjourn at 10:45am with a second from Randy. The motion passed.
