A.Tours- On June 23 a bus was scheduled to travel to the Science Museum to
see the “Titanic” exhibition. There were only 14 people registered so this tour
th
was cancelled. An August 4 trip to The Foshay Tower has four openings and
the State Fair has only 14 openings even though the trip does not take place for
two months yet. An Old Log Theater tour is scheduled for September and a trip
to Little Falls to see the homes of two lumber barons and a tour of Camp Ripley
is also on tap for this fall. The year finishes up with a December trip to North
Heights in Arden Hills for a Christmas program. Julie noted that most of our
trips are now going on Holt buses and as long as the drivers are good,
everything goes well. Julie asked the board about any needed changes in the
tours program and the board’s response was that we shouldn’t tinker with
success.
B.Update on Programs- September reported that the annual fishing trip with the
police went well. The quilt created by senior volunteers is up for a silent
auction. The Center will be taking bids until the end of September. Dance
attendance was down a little and a meal was included for the first time. Knitters
and quilters are wondering if they can bring in their own projects to work on in
a group atmosphere. September is checking in to the possibility of getting
donated playing cards from area gaming casinos. A request for a flag from the
American Legion may be coming. The current flag at the Center is starting to
look a little worn. The movie “Australia” was very popular. A movie is shown
every third Thursday and Friday at 1:00p.Next movie is “Last Minute Harvey.”
C.Computer- A new computer has been ordered. The current computer is seven
years old and will be replaced. John noted that the laptop computer is also
becoming very slow.
D.Cabinets- Instead of buying cabinets, September has decided that some current
cabinets will be reinstalled in new locations.
E.Mirrors- The Center will be adding new mirrors to the women’s restroom.
V.New Business
Another Wall Coming Down?- September proposed that the Senior Center tear
A.
out the wall in the old office area and create one large room. Cliff made a
motion that was seconded by Harriet to go ahead with the project. The board
approved the motion unanimously and included purchasing the carpeting to
finish the room.
B.New Activities- September is looking for new games to play. Mahjong is a
popular game in other communities. Other suggestions were made. The Center
invites anyone to feel free to bring a game into the Center and try it out with
other participants.
C.Other- No other business was brought forward.
VI. Adjournment: Louise made a motion to adjourn at 11:08am with a second from Cliff.
The motion passed.
Next Meeting: Monday, July 27th at 10:00 a.m.
