Motion to approve by Julie Jensen and seconded by Lorraine Zajicek. Approved. IV. Old Business A. Update on Programs- A Mardi Gras dance was held on Friday, February 20th. While attendance numbered in the low 40's, participants were enthusiastic and requested that more dances be held. Intergenerational programming between seniors and Park Elementary students is going well. Last month they participated in card making and this month they are playing board games. The movie "Radio" was a hit at the Event Center as a nearby group used the showing as part of its Mystery Tour. The Event Center makes an excellent location for watching movies on the big screen. Card groups continue to be very popular at the Senior Center. B. Tour Committee- Julie Jensen reported that marketing will be essential for the success of senior tours because competitors are offering many of the same trips. Our tours are more convenient and lower priced so it is just a matter of spreading the word. The Red Hat Society could be used to promote our current offerings and if a particular group of the society would like to make a trip as a group, the Senior Center would be happy to help make arrangements. Upcoming trips include Marshall Fields-Bachman's Flower Show/Mill City Museum on March 30th, Old Log Theatre on April 28th, Festival of Nations on May 1 S\ and Taffetas at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater on May 19th. C. Response to Donations- This past month a beautiful chess set was donated to the center. Weare still in need of a wheelchair and all board members were asked to look into any potential donors. V. New Business A. Postage- Bulk rate mailing of the monthly newsletter will begin with the April edition. September will contact Karen McKay for information on procedures for bulk mailing. B. New Members- Three people expressed an interest in joining the advisory board. Phylis Berkholtz, Lorraine Briese, and Leslie Smith indicated that they would be willing to serve. The board also would like a response from Ralph Hakel as to whether he would be interested. After some discussion Lorraine Zajicek made a motion that we recommend Phylis and Lorraine to join the board. In addition, she moved that Ralph Hackel also join the board ifhe is interested since he has never served on the board before as Les has. Ifhe is not interested, Leslie Smith would be recommended. John Lyman seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously. C. Dances- Participants at the last dance requested that the dances become monthly instead of quarterly. It was felt that if they had a regular night once a month, the attendance could be built up over time. An effort would be made to line up our dance so that each community would have a dance in a different week of the month. It was recommended that this method be tried for a three month period and that United Way funds be used as seed money in the effort. After three months, the dances should be self-sustaining. D. Volunteer Dinner- A dinner will be scheduled for the last week of April to honor all the senior volunteers from this past year. The volunteer groups will be listed in the newsletter and the volunteers will be asked to RSVP for the dinner which will be held at lunchtime this year. Julie noted that it should not be scheduled on April 28th as the Old Log Theater trip is that day. The Senior Advisory Board sponsors this event. E. Volunteers for Newsletter Publishing- September is looking for help for the senior newsletter. Specifically, she needs someone who can type up handwritten information so that September can then copy it into the newsletter. F. Other- Julie would like to get in writing what the agreement is between the City and the Senior Advisory Board concerning the laptop computer located at the Event Center. John McRaith would report back at the next meeting. The Senior Center currently uses the computer to help people with their tax work and the laptop allows them to go to other senior locations to provide this help. VI. Adjournment: Motion was made to adjourn by John Lyman and seconded by Lorraine Zajicek. Approved. Next Meeting: Monday, March 15 at 10:00 a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
