IV. Old Business:
A. Program Update: Kathy Hemmah reported that the "Christmas Angels
have begun making ornaments, that a lucky greeting card purchaser will win
a gift basket, that card sales are going well, and that movie attendance is
strong.
B. Historic Photo Project: Several items of business pertained to the photo
project. First, an event was proposed in which seniors would be invited to
talk about each photo in the gallery, followed by refreshments. This would
allow, not only for enjoyable reminiscing, but might help us to gather
additional historical information for the captions appearing below each
picture. Second, it was reported that all the photos have now found
sponsors. Third, a Les Kouba print (for framing) and the 1901 print (for
reframing) have been turned over to Marlys Woods. Fourth, if a historical
photograph is submitted as a possible addition to the gallery, staff are to
accept it for consideration by the Senior Advisory Board. If the SAB chooses
to add it to the gallery, the owner will be asked to beat- the expense of
enlargement, framing, and captioning.
C. Craft Room Cabinets: Joe will work on a design when his schedule
permits.
D. Building Sign: We can expect installation by the City in late August or
September. The City will assume no costs of installation by an outside
contractor. John Lyman asked September Jacobsen to research costs of
installation.
E. Wood Carving Class /Demonstration: Bob Meyer found no volunteer
instructors for a wood carving class. A carver is to be solicited through the
newsletter. The general issue is an imbalance between Senior Center
offerings that appeal to men vs. women. John McRaith presented the
possibility of a community service project for hen.
F. Tour C01a1.1"Agq: John McRaith suggested that the immediate task is to
identify five willing individuals. 'fo date: Delores Lorentzen and Julie Jensen
have expressed interest. An early task of the Committee will be to clarify
the terms of the relationship between the Senior Center and commercial tour
operators Bolt and R & J.
V. New Business:
A. Bridg'es(1as,; The newsletter will be used to solicit a teacher.
B. Telecommunications Charges: A monthly statement of,$35(is received at
the Events Center from the Hutchinson Telephone Company. Confusion
surrounds the history of services requested, service agreements, and Senior
Center vs. City obligations for payment. Staff is to make available at the
August-meeting an itemized statement (description of service and cost of
internet access, cable, and telephone), along with any records available from
the City regarding payment agreements. The Senior Advisory Board will
then review each service and make a determination of need.
C. wing: Board members met Evelyn McGrand who works three full days
per week. Her 20 -hour per week salary is paid by the Federal "Experience
Works" program.
D. United Way: For the purpose of aiding the mobility of senior citizens, the
United Way has allocated $2500 for Trailblazer tokens and other forms of
senior transportation. The availability of five tokens per week to be used for
social purposes (senior dining or Events Center activities vs. doctors'
appointments or grocery shopping) will be advertised in the newsletter.
E. Monthly Movie: Hereafter, movie announcements in the newsletter will
carry the tag line: "Sponsored by the Senior Advisory Board." The Board
will pay the movie rental fee, popcorn is free, and a small profit on 50 cent
sodas will go to the Board. Movie rental fees for the next several months
were donated by John Lyman. Motion to sponsor movies by Lorraine Zajicek,
