11-25-2002 TBM Minutes Tree Board November 25,2002 Members present: Mike Getzke, Victor Schmidt, Deanne Dietel 3M Donation The board discussed how it would use the $200.00 donation it received as part of having Deanne Dietel [retired 3M employee] volunteering hours to the City Tree Board. The board decided to have the money help sponsor the 2003 Arbor Day ceremony that is being planned to take place in Library Square in June of 2003. The board thanked Deanne for his willingness to submit the application to 3M, which resulted in the $200.00 award. Arbor Day 2003 The board instructed Schnobrich to contact Park Elementary to see if they would host a city wide 3rd grade Arbor Day program at Park Elementary. Schools involved would be St. A's, Our Saviors, Word of Life and Acoma Lutheran. Further details would follow as to program and continuing the "Find the Largest Tree" contest. Miller Woods Schnobrich informed the board that more Buckthorne eradication had taken place on the north side of the park and that members should go out and see the transformation, which has occurred. Spring 2003 will find the parks dept. spraying for suckers and residual buckthorne after which a formal plan will be laid out to replace plants that more accurately inhabit an Oak Savannah. Mayor Torgerson and John Miller both participated in the process of cutting along with the McLeod County Sentence to Serve Program lead by Duane Radtke. Without there help the project could not have taken place. Schimek Property Annexation Hutchinson Land Holdings group has requested a new subdivision between the existing Jefferson ST SE and the yet to be completed Edmonton Ave SW. The subdivision has a unique tie with the tree board as it may involve reintroducing the requirement to have the subdivider supply the boulevard trees. The board must now present to Julie Wi schnack a plan as to how it wants the requirement to be worded and to submit that to her soon, 2003 Energy Tree Program Schnobrich was unable to present the 2002 Year End Report to the Utility Commission in November and will again ask the board to attend with him in December. At that time the utility commission will decide whether it will fund the energy tree-planting program again for 2003. Other Business Mike Getzke requested Schnobrich to present a cost / benefit ratio to planting a one acre site and maintaining a tree nursery as compared with buying potted trees from a nursery.
