MINUTES
Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board
October 5, 2020
Members present were Chad Czmowski, Jeff Hoeft, Liz Marcus, Tim Peterson, Tiffany Barnard and Craig
Juhnke. Also present were Dolf Moon and Leslie Alberts.
The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm.
A motion was made by Dolf Moon to approve the minutes from the July 6, 2020, meeting. Chad
Czmowski and Craig Juhnke motioned to approve. The board unanimously agreed.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Summer/Fall Projects
a. Reduced parks maintenance staff this summer but still able to get some projects
completed
b. Had to order fence posts at VMF Park. Some posts were aluminum and some steel.
Ordered new steel posts and replaced. Completed on 10/3/20.
c. Recreation Center roofing taking longer than expected due to shortage on supplies.
Supplies are in route.
d. Storage shed at Roberts Park is complete. 14’ x 9’ shed. Tried having high school
students complete last spring, but due to COVID, had Chuck Platisha complete in fall
2020.
B. Revised Budget Update
a. Reviewed revised budget plan
b. Campground generated over $47,000 during the summer (June 1 – Oct 1)
C. Brochure
a. People like having the paper copy in their homes versus an online version. Visual
reminder to sign up for activities.
New Business
A. Fall Program Numbers
a. Dolf presented current roster numbers for fall PRCE activities
b. 20% drop in attendance across all activities
B. New Projects
a. Burich Arena to receive an exterior resurface. Preliminary estimate is about $1.25
million.
b. Storm/Sanitary sewer project – hoping to have accommodating parking for elections
in November
C. Facility Usage
a. Event Center had been host site for childcare for ISD 423. South side of Event
Center was used for the gym. Mask break every 90 minutes.
b. Middle School pool: As of Aug. 1, 2020, not sure if facility will be available for rental.
Per Governor’s orders, no outside visitors (associations and lap swimming) per
mandate. School board and Community Education wondering how best to utilize
school facilities.
D. Childcare Program
a. Ran for roughly 4 weeks with 84 kids between A/B days (30-32 kids daily). Mask
break every 90 minutes
Board Member Items
a. Middle School pool: Surrounding communities open – why aren’t we? Perhaps
looking to write a policy that follows mandate.
b. Waconia offering open skating – could we offer open skating this season?
c. Firemans Park: needs upgrade. This has been discussed with Chief Schumann and
would need the fire department to donate money.
d. Cedar Park dock: move to campground would be more beneficial for fishing by
campers. Parks Dept. has thought about potentially moving this.
