Hutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were, Chairperson Matt Beilke, Commissioner Kim Pearson, Commissioner Liz Cheney, and
Chief Tom Gifferson.
Call the Meeting to Order:
Chairperson Matt Beilke called the meeting to order at 4:45 pm.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Beilke asked if there were any changes to the May agenda. Commissioner Pearson made a motion to
approve the agenda, seconded by Commissioner Cheney. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Beilke asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the April meeting. Commissioner Cheney made
a motion to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Commissioner Pearson. The motion carried unanimously.
Rules and Regs:
Chief Gifferson asked the Commission to approve the start of a police officer hiring process. Chairperson Beilke made
a motion to approve the start of the process, seconded by Commissioner Cheney. Motion carried unanimously.
Staffing Issues: Chief Gifferson informed the Commission that two of the three candidates in the Police Cadet hiring
process were no longer viable candidates.
Items from the floor:
Chief Gifferson informed the Commission that the City Council had approved grade adjustments on the pay grid for
officers not belonging to a bargaining unit.
Chief Gifferson advised the CSO/Security position is set and laid off employees will be called back to fill those positions.
Union Update:
Adjourn: Chairperson Beilke made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Pearson to adjourn the meeting. The motion
carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 4:53 pm.
The next meeting is Tuesday June 11, 2024 at 4:45 pm.
