Hutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday January 17, 2023 at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were, Chairperson Matt Beilke, Commissioner Kim Pearson, Commissioner Liz Cheney and
Chief Tom Gifferson.
Call the Meeting to Order:
Chairperson Matt Beilke called the meeting to order at 4:45 pm.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Beilke asked if there were any changes to the January agenda. Commissioner Pearson made a motion
to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Cheney. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Beilke asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the December, 2022 meeting. Commissioner
Cheney made a motion to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Commissioner Pearson. The motion carried
unanimously.
Rules and Regs:
Chief Gifferson confirmed with the Commission the upcoming Annual Business meeting that would take place on
February 6, 2023 at 4:45 pm. The Commission also agreed to count the Annual meeting as their meeting for February.
Staffing Issues:
Chief Gifferson briefed the Commission on the Hospital Security Hiring process. Chief Gifferson informed the
Commission that Officer McCormick was out of field training and performing on his own. Chief Gifferson informed the
Commission the three officers on administrative leave have returned to work.
Chief Gifferson informed the Commission that Officer Ben Huebner had submitted his resignation.
Chairperson Beilke made a motion to backfill the open police officer position from the part-time officer pool, seconded
by Commissioner Cheney. The motion carried unanimously.
Chief Gifferson asked the Commission to consider starting a hiring process for part-time police officer. Commissioner
Pearson made a motion to approve opening a hiring process for par –time police officer, seconded by Commissioner
Cheney. The motion carried unanimously.
Union Update:
Patrol mediation on Jan.26, 2023.
Adjourn: Commissioner Pearson made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Cheney to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:05pm
Next meeting is Tuesday February 6, 2023 at 4:45 pm.
