05-23-2022 SAM Senior Advisory Board Minutes May 23, 2022 Present: Randy Kandt, Al Barkeim, Connie Dahl, Rhonda Schwarze, Julie Jensen, Jeannette Meyer, Dave Husfeldt City Staff: Jenny Behrendt, John McRaith Absent: Mike Becker I. The meeting was called to order at 10:05am by chairperson Rhonda Schwarze. II. Secretary’s Report: The minutes from last month’s meeting were reviewed. No corrections were brought forward. Jeannette made a motion to approve the minutes with a second from Dave. The motion passed. III. Monthly Sales Review: Card sales amounted to $55.20 for the month of April and another $6 was brought in from the sale of scrubbers. IV. Old Business A. Flag Pole Plaque- We are still waiting for the stone to be delivered. It is now scheduled to arrive sometime in July. VI. Business th A. Senior Center Tours- Julie reported that the May 17 trip to the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud to listen to the “Killer Vees” and eat lunch at the Coyote th Moon Grille was sold out and went well. June 29 will bring a second visit to a St. Paul Saints game including a pre-game picnic. We currently have 34 registered and need to get to 40 to qualify for the picnic. A cruise down the St. Croix river which features a meal at the Afton House Inn is one of our most th popular trips and sells out immediately. This trip is scheduled for July 13. th August 29 is our annual visit to the State Fair on Senior Day. A September tour is still up in the air but a visit to the Minnesota History Theater to see a th presentation on Buddy Holly is set for October 6. B. Update on Programs- Jenny reported that the kayaking group had their first th outing on May 18 and the weather was a little unpredictable. Future outings st will be held every other Wednesday in June beginning with the June 1. The card game “Hand & Foot” was offered at the Center but only two players showed up. It will probably take some recruiting to get this event off the ground. The movie for May was “Belfast” with 21 people in attendance. “American Underdog”, the true story of football star Kurt Warner will be the featured movie for June. AARP driving classes are up and running again with 24 people attending the first session. The foot care clinic will begin in the next couple of months. Seniors are being offered a free one-day pass to try out the fitness swim time at the Water Park. C. Other- The board held some discussion about having medical information on hand for seniors attending trips. In these days of cell phones and 911 calls it was felt we no longer need to ask for the information but will certainly retain any information volunteered by a participant. VI. Adjournment: Dave made a motion to adjourn at 10:35am with a second from Connie. The motion passed. The next scheduled meeting of the Senior Advisory th Board will be Monday, June 27 at 10:00am.
